Hell maybe he is right. I am just wasting my money here. I am only taking from anandtech not giving anything to it.

My servers are due to be renewed in june, I won't hosting after that, not that I am hosting anything now.

The idea didn't float, cool. I can live with that, but being accused of robbing the one site I love!

I am out.

Okay, you are entitled to your opinion as you stated, but please don't misrepresent what we are doing here. We are not competing with Anand or Anandtech. We are TeAm members providing a service for TeAm members. If you don't wish to use it then DON'T!

You have stated your opinion (quite a few times in fact), now please quit thread crapping and move along.

EDIT: Also by your logic we need to kill the welcome thread because it redirects people to more sites

Ahahahahahah, are you always that rude? So happens I like rude people. LMFAO.

OK, my mission here is to dissuade you and other TeAm members from damaging AnandTech, so I'll try for some clarification.

You think I'm misrepresenting what you are doing here, so obviously I have not clearly communicated my thoughts. I understand that you don't 'think' you are competing with AT, but you are in fact competing for AT's members (eg, Help Wanted, and, look how much better we can serve you at reddeye).

You are, as you stated intending to be 'TeAm members providing a service for TeAm members', but it seems to me that in the process you are damaging AnandTech.

I understand that your motives are to help improve things, but consider this:

The Anand website survives by selling advertisements. The prices that can be charged for those ads are directly impacted by the number of views (hits) the website sustains. If you direct traffic to alternative websites providing the same basic services as AT you are consequently reducing the value of the ads Anand is selling. Damaging AT.

If you prove me wrong here I will be happy to move along. However, the AT.net forum, is composed of the same sort of threads and posts that would otherwise appear in the AnandTech DC forum -- and thus has reduced AnandTech hits. Not significant yet, but who knows what a dedicated team of skilled AnandTech members might accomplish.

Thus, I was/am hoping that your considerable talents would be applied to figuring out how to make the AT DC forum a better place.

As for thread crapping, I don't see it your way. If I wish to opine on your request for help I must do it within this thread. I was done with this subject with my first post but then had to respond to comments regarding my post(s) so that others would not assume my silence represents concurrence.

Now I'm done unless you ask for more clarification.

You know I thought about writing back something more, but I understand now that you truly are a troll and looking for that. I won't waste anymore time on you troll.

You know Crazee, that almost p_ssed me off. Had to remind myself about 3 times that this is the internet. But I've gained a lot of insight from this thread. Mostly I now see why there are so few members actually posting in the DC forum.

So now The Troll is out of here. Flame away.

I think everyone needs to relax a bit and undwind their undies.

We can discuss this without resorting to name calling, it's unbecoming and I think we as a team are better than that.

emjem is entitled to his opinion.

However, do NOT make the mistake of thinking he/her opinion represents the DC TeAm.

As I stated before (funny, no comments from emjem on that) emjem is the only person I can ever remember that has had a problem with off-site DC websites

emjem,
Is Anandtech the ONLY forum you ever visit? Is it the ONLY website you go to for information? If so, what a small view of the world.
If not, OMG, YOU'RE TAKING REVENUE AWAY FROM ANAND!!!!

Facts:
1. The offsite DC websites have never meant to replace Anandtech, and could never replace Anandtech.
2. The offsite DC websites provide valuable support/information to TeAm Anandtech.
3. The offsite DC websites have had the blessings of the Anandtech team/mods
4. The Anandtech DC forum is the primary home to ALL TeAm DC participants, and will continue to be so. Unless trolls start posting bs, get people all upset, then we may look for an alternative place to discuss things without having to deal with trolls.

I understand that you are concerned that Anandtech may be negatively impacted, but your arguments are way off base. Go to Hot Deals. Look at the top of this thread maintained by the Anandtech Moderators. Look at how many links to other websites there are. http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=40&threadid=1550970&enterthread=y
Sheesh, you would think that they would be concerned about losing revenue by referring people to other websites, but I guess not.
How many threads in OT post a link to an off-site webpage? How many have a link to another website in their sig?

Seems like you are the only person at Anandtech who has a problem with all of this. Maybe you really are concerned, maybe you are just trolling, trying to stir things up. Either way, your concerns are not based on any factual/historical/current events.

I used to go on Reddeye Xpress from time to time, now that I have fallen in with TAS I am a regular on ta.net, both of these sites are very nicely done and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

One of the things I appreciate the most is how they "compensate" for the Anandtech forums' greatest weakness: No custom avatars or signature GIFs. I know AT and a lot of the other "old school" techie enthusiast sites (Ars, slashdot, etc.) will be very slow to adopt these changes if ever so I'm glad we TeAmmates have this avenue for a little more self-expression!

Anyway, back on topic - if you want to have more fun in DC, a great way is to join one of the TA mini-teams like TAS or the Rebel Alliance. And from being in TAS several months now, let there be no question: TAS cannot be what it is without an independent site supporting it like ta.net. I'm sure the same could be said for the Rebel Alliance.

It looks like Wolfsraider has taken Reddeye Xpress down.

I'd like to add my voice of support for the Reddeye Xpress site and encourage its return.

I agree with your view on the value of TA mini-teams. My apparent quarrel is not with sub-teams (such TAS, RA, etc) having web sites and promoting them on AT, or using them however the hll they want.

It now appears via some PMs that some of these off site member/managers think that I accused them of taking personal financial gain from their sites. I don't see anywhere that I have done that, nor was it my intent. So if that's the way my posts read I apologize for that communication failure.

After reflecting on my experiences in this thread I've realized that I really have no reason at all to care one way or the other about this AnandTech forum. It costs me about $100/month to support Rosetta via TeAmA. For spending $1200/year plus parts and expressing an opposing opinion I get labeled, belittled, cursed, bitch slapped and gang banged. I really don't need this chit.

So like Wolfsraider, I quit. As I sign off now I'm going to upload my finished WUs then shut down my 9 crunchers.

Bye bye

I just became aware of the "goings on" in this thread. For those of you that don't know, emjem is my father and he's been helping me crunch (significantly) for years now. I must say I'm a bit disappointed in the way some of my teammates have handled his opinion. After reading this thread thru a couple of times, he did nothing more than express his opinion. I think he stated it in a non-threating, intelligent manner. That is the nature of forums, to voice one's opinion on matters. If you disagree, then fine, but nobody has to resort name calling. I mean, how would you feel if I called your father an asshat, troll, dumbass, etc.?

On top of that, he has spent a lot of time and money crunching for the TeAm under my name.....for YEARS. My production is very dependent on him, he has more personal PC's than I have which includes a significant crack rack in his garage. How dedicated is that for someone that basically crunches anonymously? Then he posts here and is berated for expressing an opinion. Perhaps I should reconsider my dedication to TA if this is how fellow crunchers are treated when they try to state an opinion?

Okay kiddies, stop throwing tempor tantrums.

Emjem, BadThad, Wolfsraider: Sorry that you (or, in the case of BadThad, your dad) got flamed. However (Emjem), you simply don't directly insult something that someone has spent countless hours working on. People tend to get kinda pissed when you do that. Not that that excuses bad behavior, which leads me to my next point: Don't be so frickin sensitive. Looking at some of the posts in this thread reminds of a cat-fight between my two little cousins. They scracthed for a while then said something to the effect of "YOU SUCK!!! HUMPH!!!" and stomped off to separate rooms.

Emjem: Get it together. You wern't flamed for your opinion, you were flamed for your insult (and you were only flamed by a few members anyway), and if a little flame is enough to destabilize you like this, you need anger management. You are respected for your continued contribution to TA, but that doesn't give you grounds to insult anyone or deprive innocent teammates of valuable resources.

Wolfsraider: You are respected for your continued contribution to TA, but that doesn't give you grounds to insult anyone or deprive innocent teammates of valuable resources. And remember that for everyone person who disklikes your work, there are at least 30x more that value and respect it.

BadThad: Sorry your kinda in an awkward spot, but personally, if you called my father and asshat, troll, dumbass, etc, I would let HIM slam you on your ass and stay out of it.

I find this whole thread sad.
For years I've told friends on other teams that if there is one thing we on Anandtech can agree on is we have the right to disagree with each other but in the end we are all still TeAm Anandtech.
More and more that doesn't seem to be the case these days and I find myself wondering where's the TeAm I joined years ago. It's harder and harder for me to find the spirt that used to be Anandtech and made it special from other teams to me.
I also find myself wondering if that could be part of the reason Todd ( The cofounder of the Rebel Alliance ) has retired from crunching.
Thad ,while I disagree with your father I do agree with and believe in his right to his view and his right to state it without personal attacks upon his self for doing so.
I've read this thread several times and I cannot find one post where your father has called anyone anything or any kind of name and can see no reason for anyone to refer to him in said manner other then he disagreed with their veiwpoint.
I do hope he continues to crunch Rosetta as it is a worthy project with a lot of promise and that is what is the most important to me. Not who he ( Or you) crunchs for. In the end we are all crunching in the hope to help our children or family or friends, not to just watch numbers grow bigger and bigger.

Let me throw my two-cents into the pot.

Communicating via typed messages is a very hard way to convey one's feelings. It's very important that we couch our posts with the smiley faces to help the reader understand our true meaning. Sometimes, we carry these smiley faces too far and get ridiculous. Other times, maybe when it might be most important, we forget to use them.

I can call you a "son of a bxxch" in many different ways. In some ways you'd want to knock my block off and in other ways we'd hug and pat each other on the back.

I think what we have here is a failure to communicate.

You can read back through this thread and see how things escalated. Even though some words were conciliatory the "jabs" more than overcame them. We all contribute to the TeAm and when we feel we are not appreciated or spoken to unfairly, it really hurts.

In my opinion all of the participants in this thread are the very best of people. It is really heart breaking to see things get out of hand. I'll not point out where each participant said something they shouldn't have for that would only end up fanning the flames. Let's leave it that things were said on all sides that were not in the spirit of our TeAm.

I suggest that everybody take a break, sleep on it. Come back tomorrow and post again. Hopefully, we can find a way to remain friends and TeAm Mates.

There have been way to many flames in this thread (myself included, to a lesser degree) sooo...
*OT Subject Hijack* This thread is now about how long it will take the Monkey Shakespere Simulator to break their record of 24 letters from Henry IV

I owe you an apology. I looked back at what I wrote and honest man I was not trying to cause you any hard feelings. I honestly took time to try and keep it very civil. I have reread the posts and still don't see where I attacked you. EDIT I was attacking you in the pm I just reread:

You took it upon yourself to be rude to most of the team leaders.

You never asked questions you only came into the thread spouting everyone else was wrong and you are right. again rude.
I didn't edit very good at all. I was wrong. I apologize.

I am sorry, it wasn't my intention to attack you. I tried very hard to not attack you, but rather show you the other side ofthe coin.

I must have failed miserably. I do not agree with the personal attacks that were directed at you. That was as wrong as it gets, I do understand being attacked , that it feels like everyone is against you. I was against the idea I was taking something for my efforts nothing else. I was still wrong, you are a teammatem I respect that, that you are bad thads dad adds even more weight, I respect your son, I respect you as well. More now in hindsight, you didn't deserve the attacks, or verbal abuse. I thought you handled that better than most, even better than I did/do.

Please if you can forgive me, and please accept my apologies.

I hope you stay on the team, not because of your computers, but because i would like to get to know you better. I am sorry I let my feelings get in the way.

mike

To all of you...i apologize for getting upset.

Seems like on the one hand we have someone who would like it all done his way and decides to get PO'd because his opinions are unpopular. Everyone should learn by the time they reach adulthood that they are not, nor are they ever likely to be... in charge.

On the other hand we have some who are maybe just a little bit oversensitive and ready to take offense where none was (hopefully) meant.

To anyone who wants to remake this TeAm in their image:
One thing you should have learned about this place by now is that folks here don't like to be told what to do, or not do with their time and resources.

The rest of you guys, come on... chill out a bit. It's just a Team Mate expressing his opinion, we can take it can't we?

Now if you want it to get really interesting we can start up the discussion of whether or not using optimized clients is cheating...
