That is up to you. Are you willing to settle for something you don't really want. I made that choice but it wasn't easy.

Yah, you're probably right about the new ATI stuff coming out Q1 07.

If it was just a matter of waiting for the latest version of a bios or new video cards to come out I would go ahead with the parts purchases but there is so much in flux right now around AMD (AM2 crossfire is just trickling out, 4x4, quad core, major ATI chip changes, ...) that I'm inclined to hold off as long as I can since these could all be major platform improvements.

Hopefully we can keep this thread going for a while - I'll post things as I find them.

i had the EXACT same feeling after i read that article posted earlier... i was like "ahh crap, now i have to wait another few months"

but like Brbnboy13 stated, who knows when the newer platform of CF will be available... not to mention that, in general, there's is always something waiting "just around the corner"

the best decision to make is to always plan your upgrade path carefully (imho), and once you buy, take yourself away from learning about hardware advancements for a month so you can enjoy your new build and actually feel like you own the "latest and greatest"

then when you come back to AT you'll see all kinds of new hardware but won't feel bad because a whole month has passed and your new rig will feel outdated to you by then anyway

Damn, I messaged ZipZoomFly about when the MSI board will come in and they replied back that they have no confirmed ETA.

OK, this may be why there isn't a deluxe version of the M2R32-MVP out yet.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/06/09/ati_sb650_raid_5_sata/

I'm now thinking that there will be a deluxe version coming out with this ATI SB650 south bridge instead of the SB600 that's on the current M2R32-MVP. If this is right then I would bet that Asus will have this board out in the next couple of months - pending ATI coughing up a reasonable supply of the SB650 chips. Combine this with two of the dongle-less R600 GPU based cards in Xfire...

Well, I'm really startin to lose it about this! I remember in May when ATI said that the 3200 chipset was compatible with AM2 and that it would be as simple as stickin them on the boards. I can't wait to get a badass mobo to go with the xms2 RAM, X1900XT, and 4600+ cpu I have that are sitting here just waiting to be OC'd!!!

My brother wants me to build a gaming computer for him before he goes away to uni (well, before I go back to uni too). I was hoping to use an am2 / crossfire build, but the boards are taking way too long to come out so I think i'm just going to go with a conroe build.

Same here...

My anger is increasing exponentially every day. And to add insult to injury, newegg sold out of the ECS board. I can't even go slumming with an ECS mobo. Ugh.

Any word on the MSI board?

Yes Screw Conroe-I am done with INTEL. I decided to go AM2 awhile ago so there will be no 939 for me either(by choice). And that BS link on ISORM has been there for awhile-it is just a hey we will have this someday advertisement

All the AM2 Crossfire Motherboards look real good. If a mainstream company would actually release one that would be great. But NO I am stuck using a ECS Motherboard because I am inpatient.

Dude the DFI board's existence has been known since feburary and isnt that CFX3200-M2 instead of CFX3300-M2.

Both the DFI and Asus boards were suppose to be released toghther. But looksl ike the deluxe version has been pulled back and there is no ETA on DFI.

Give the guy a break!!! He might be new to the market but who cares. He made a typo and maybe he doesn't have all the time in the world to sit on his computer and research computer parts. His screen name is Familyman1.

ahahahahah!!! i m just inquiring. not to ask in an insulting manner or anything.

But you know what? i didin't know the DFi board had the RD580 (i thought that was the CFX3200-DR board?) chipset. The asus one had the RD800 ? i think...correct me if im wrong.

Just correcting you, RD580=3200 and there are no RD800s (maybe not for a long time) I think the new chipset is RD600, but I don't remember when it was supposed to come out...

I think the CFX3200-DR may be a 939 board. There is a RD600 but it's supporting (cough, hack, wheeze) C2D - basically identical to 975 chip. I like AMD but I have to say that a new RD600 board with a C2D/crossfire would be a nice system, particularly when the R600 cards come out.

No sweat on the comments, I appreciate the feedback. I cut and pasted the DFI info from another site - it should be 3200 not 3300. I thought you might find it interesting since it uses the newer SB650 rather than the SB600 south bridge. This is the first board I've seen with the 650 in the specs, although it's still vaporware as far as I'm concerned until we can buy it. Since the SB600 and SB650 share the same pin layout I suspect that ASUS will come out with a crossfire board based on the 650. I just hope some of us live long enough to get one of these new crossfire boards...
