Each account seemed to be pulling from a different type of list, which was chosen with absolutely no regard for prior purchases. My guess is that whatever software is determining what types of items you get is kinda buggy... It'll probably get more targeted in the future.

My understanding is Gold Box lists items that are consistent with your prior purchases. Also, once viewed the price only lasts an hour and what you see as the price, other normal shoppers do not. Once you decline the offer, and move to the next item it is gone forever.

They are pushing that Panasonic shaver like crazy. That pops up in my gold box all the time.

The deals are pretty decent, though they also seem pretty random. I think there is a relatively small group of items they are cycling through the box right now.

If the goldbox stuff is linked with prior purchases, then they need to seriously rewrite that algorithm. (I've gone through it with three accounts a number of times... Only one of those has a significant purchase history (The others have 1 or 2 orders each) and yet the distribution seems the same.) There appears to be a list of items that are candidates for goldboxing. Presumably this will be updated every so often, and price changes in the base cost of the item are reflected in the goldbox deals. The discounts offered by the goldbox coupons seem to vary by a huge amount. I'm not sure if those discounts are manually entered, or determined in some other way...

When Amazon said it was targetting products to customers based on past purchases, it probably pulls from a pool of products it's looking to unload. Since the pool right now is probably smaller since they just started it, it probably doesn't seem like they're targetting anything. It's funny, they're taking products they can't sell (like a George Foreman Rotisserie) and spicing it up with a Gold Box to make you feel special that you only have one hour to make the critical decision before it is "gone forever."

For those of you still not getting the box, I've noticed that I only get it if I use IE and not Mozilla. I noticed that on the other thread, some folks mentioned getting it with Netscape, so who knows?

for me, it popped up right after i installed netscape and used netscape. i tried every which way with internet explorer (deleting the cache, my cookies) and whatever, but it doesn't seem to show up in my ie. just my input. good luck everyone else!!
