I quit prime late last year but signed up for it again a month ago. I wanted to watch fallout and the fast shipping works well here. Search results for lots of things are just a smogarsborg of random named Chinese brands.

But I do get certain things on there I use regularly, from Marvis toothpaste, to contact lens solution, and a few other things.

I did get a new DJI action 4 today for 299 from Amazon and multiple accessories and everything is great. Ordered Sunday night.

I'm right near a whole foods so it's easy to pick up fragile things there or things that need codes now due to package theft.

But I feel guilty lol

I'll probably quit it now that fallout is done though. Get it when Lord of the rings comes back

I've mostly used only the annual free trial of prime, or signed up for a month when I needed something fast. Years ago It was great, with 1 or 2 day shipping.

The last few years it's always taken just as long to get things with Prime as without. I won't ever pay for a month again.

I do watch Freevee occasionally, no ads at all with uBlock and Adgaurd dns servers. And no ads anywhere else either like youtube etc.

Had multiple 'free trials' of Amazon Prime. Never actually paid for it. Don't really need 'next day delivery', and in fact it tends to work out better when things are just sent Royal Mail, because then I can wait for the 'while you were out' card and walk a short distance up the road to the post office to collect the thing.

With Amazon Prime delivery I have to be at home or the delivery guy can't get into the building, which makes it more inconvenient than using the normal post.

One of the main reasons I thought prime was worth it was because of prime video. I spent more time on Prime video than Netflix. Now PV sucks like everything else they offer. I also cancelled my music unlimited sub because they gimped prime music and then the video. Right now I'm using 5 months free of apple music from walmart+. After that I'll probably sign up with Tidal since they lowered the price of their top tier to $11.

I can't think of anything amazon that has gotten better over the years except for Jeff Bezos' wealth.

A few days ago, I ordered a countertop compost bin from Amazon Warehouse. Strangely the ETA was 2 weeks, but I was in no rush.

Reality: shipped yesterday and delivered today by USPS.

Currently I have a bunch of streaming subs from Cyber Monday deals. If and when I cancel those without renewal, I will find something to watch on Prime video. Hulu with ads is kinda brutal, about as bad as broadcast TV.

I still use them, but I wish I didn't. I wish there was a reasonable alternative.

They're about to get into it with the NLRB , the FTC and maybe some others.

It just isn't a good company.

There are plenty of alternatives to Amazon, it's just a matter of looking. Though, your options might be limited if you don't like FedEx.

Another random complain-y anecdote, but this is exactly what I was talking about in previous posts in this thread...

Needed a few things, and accepted the offer for "1 week trial of Prime for .99". I only took it because the order only came to about $30, it was just short of the free shipping. Mind you, the order was a few household items (cleaning supplies), and a few food items. Everything I ordered is very common, nothing odd or unusual or hard to find.

Ordered mid-day last Wednesday (6 days ago). Nothing has moved (left a warehouse) yet. I don't think I order from anywhere else online that takes so long just to get shit out the door. This is exactly why I say that the "2-day shipping" is a load of rubbish. It doesn't mean shit when it still takes 2 weeks for your order to arrive. And this is a paid-for service.

Did they give you an expected delivery date? Last time they suckered me into paying $1.99 a month Prime for tool I really needed fast, it was deliverd 4 days late. 7 days total.

Give em a call. They wouldn't refund my $1.99, but they would give me a $5 courtesy credit. Made no sense to me. Too bad I no longer needed the tool by the time it arrived, but I'll find a use for it some day. Maybe.

Delivery dates for the half-dozen or so items I ordered ranged between 1 day and 4 days. Most were a 2 day estimate at time of order. By the following day, over half of them had the est. delivery date pushed out a day or two, then pushed back again when that date came and went. They are now showing Friday, Sunday, and Monday. If everything arrived Friday, that would still be 9 days from the time I placed the order.

And I've asked about credits because of the long-ass delivery times. They use to offer it themselves, now it's like pulling teeth and they tell you the old, "It's two day from when it leaves blah blah blah". It doesn't matter to them what the site told you for delivery date estimate. "Wellllllll...that's only an estimate". Like I've said...shirking any accountability.

I'm not sure what is up with Prime in other areas, it is obviously area dependent so wherever you are makes sense to read reviews in that area, not just overall. But in the NY Metro area it works really really well. I quit for like 4-5 months but signed up again shortly before Fallout came out and went back to ordering from there. The speeds are incredible. Will try to force myself to cancel though since Fallout has been binged and I want to wean myself off of it again.

Not sure why it would be area dependent. They wait 3 - 4 or more days to ship it. The shipping/transit time is fine.

I doubt they are just waiting 3-4 days. What they are probably doing is shipping it from one of their warehouses to another before it officially ships. Using their semis to bulk move stuff around before sending out smaller stuff.

As I stated. I don't have that issue. I get stuff fast. That means including how long to ship. But I'm not going to assume that's the same everywhere.

I'm really not sure why it's a stretch of the imagination to imagine a company who operates in all 50 states in all sorts of urban to suburban to rural areas may have different service speeds depending upon area. Seems like a pretty normal thing to happen.

The say it will be here in 3 days, and don't even ship it for 4. I'm trying to figure out how that has anything to do with where the purchaser lives, or where it's shipping from. Usually when they do finally ship, I get it the next day. They aren't even trying.

Glad it works for you. But I actually get better delivery times without Prime.

I was just going to mention that as well. There's some classification issues within Amazon. I think there might have been a change to the logistics to hold and combine shipments regardless of the delay. The last couple of orders I did were 3rd party and they shipped immediately and were delivered fairly quickly. Though even AE seems to be upping their game and delivering within a week now as well. Saves some $$ coming from CN directly vs the markup due to Amazon fees sellers pay. Some of the tech stuff I've gotten recently I compared with Amazon and they both shipped from CN but Amazon has added shipping fees. Amazon is good for having a record of purchases but it's not always the best deal. Things you can get locally tend to be 2-3x more than if you got off your butt and went to get it. Amazon though has some niche things that are difficult to source with stores shuttering over the last few years. The shopping landscape has changed and it's not for the better.

So you feel it's beyond the realm of possibility that Amazon can have different performance levels in different areas when they are everywhere. It all must be an equilibrium.

I find that fascinating.

How's that more mass transit working out for you?

You appear too dense to understand. They say it will be delivered, say May 10th. It doesn't even ship until May 12th and arrives the 15th.

THEY PROVIDED THE DELIVERY DATE, knowing damn well where I live.
If they operate differently in different areas, why not state a later delivery date?

As far as your more mass transit, sorry I couldn't read your mind. Maybe you should learn how to write in complete sentences.

Holy shit I'm not saying they purposely promised different service levels in different areas, I'm saying not every Amazon region and locality is probably managed at the same efficiency. Some are better than others. What's not computing here?

Amazon has more than 110 active fulfillment centers in the US.The states with the most Amazon warehouse locations are California, Texas, Illinois, Florida, and Pennsylvania.

I get packages from at leat 10 different warehouses, probably more. Including Pennsylvania, right by you. Now explain how where I live effects how long it takes them to actually ship the package? Not delivery time, shipping the package.

Years ago they always shipped the same day. Even Newegg can do that, without paying for a membership.
