What does everyone think will happen when Amazon release their new 10 inch and 7 inch kindle fire ? Will people still want them ? I think so because most people who use tablets use it to just consume data.

I really hope the rumor of Amazon lowering the price of the original Kindle Fire by $50 is true too once the new models come out. No one can beat $149.99.

Have they confirmed a 10" tablet? You seem to be treating it as fact that they will release one.

BGR stopped being a credible source of rumors long ago. To the extend that I'm more inclined to believe that any rumor posted there can be filed as 'likely false'.

This is true. That is why when I got my iPad 2 new I only paid $350 for it. I am not willing to spend more than $350 on a tablet. $400 no way.

I still don't have a tablet and have been considering the kindle fire mostly because of its price. Tablets are toys the price of the ipads are insane.

I used to feel the same way about iPad, then I was gifted with this one. This thing is amazing, very pleased with how everything works so smoothly & the screen is gorgeous!

It's funny because I used to think like how you think now. I was amazed with the iPad and other tablets initially but now I think tablets in general are toys. With phones approaching 5 inches, tablets become sort of redundant.

Personally I go with the toys idea, though many people obviously use them as tools (that also are toys). The more expensive tablets then, are simply expensive tech toys...which people on this forum most likely understand very well.

My wife got a Kindle Fire as a gift, it's not too bad (of course it's signed in with my account because Amazon Prime is under my name and I had a pile of free apps already). She certainly enjoys it and uses the heck out of it.

Haven't heard anything remotely credible about a new Kindle Fire, seems to me it's at least 3+ months away from now. Might as well be talking about the Samsung Galaxy S4. That said, I hope they call it something more creative and less confusing than the New Kindle Fire.

If tablets are toys then laptops are toys as well. I use my tablet for both work and play and it functions exactly as my laptop did... only it lasts a hell of a lot longer on battery, is lighter, thinner, and less expensive.

I disagree. A laptop at least has some semblance of longevity and upgradability with an array of industry-standard expansion slots, memory slots, IO ports, and replaceable battery. Not to mention it runs x86 software, as opposed to mobile toys apps. A tablet is basically an all-in-one package that's guaranteed to be obsolete in a matter of months, and often tied to proprietary peripherals and a closed ecosystem.

And yet, more and more businesses are adapting to tablets. A tablet has worked just fine for my work, school, and entertainment needs. It may not work for you, but that doesn't make it a toy.

That's all fine, but saying a laptop is a toy just like a tablet is quite a stretch IMO. All things considered, a laptop simply has more power, longevity and more expansion options, not to mention adhering to industry-standard design.

I thought they were not making any money on the Kindle Fire as the hardware was being made at a slight loss, to be recouped with their digital content? It would not make sense to lower the price, but it would make sense to make a better one and charge $50 more for it. I haven't heard how much they are making to offset the loss they take on hardware, maybe their strategy is working and they can cut the cost of the original even further who knows.
