AMD 1700+ RETAIL $63 SHIPPED!

Hi guys...just went to NewEgg again to see if prices have dropped on their CPUs yet, and came across the 1700+ retail for $63. I'm a little confused, though, because they also have the OEM version for $60, but then ANOTHER oem 1700+ for $70. wtf?!?

Why is the non T-bred Oem chip more than the Retail T-Bred?!? Isn't the T_Bred the better chip?

Not a bad deal, but is a repost of here where it was $46 3 weeks ago. Still a warm deal, but getting colder.

Hi, the $46.99 price was for an OEM cpu, this is retail. Not exactly "hot" but a good deal nonetheless

No, you missed my point. The OEM version is a sucky price now because it skyrocketed in the last 3 weeks. My point was the retail version was only $63, which includes 3 yr warranty & hs/f.

I posted the 2 OEM versions just as comparisons. The non t-bred at $70 is more than the retail T-bred. That is a screwy pricing scheme, IMHO.

that OEM for $70 is actually a Palomino chip, an older version of the athlon built on 0.18 um assembly. an AXDA1700 chip is a tbred, although it could be tbred A but most likely it will be a tbred B (albeit a J chip).

Same reason why Athlon T-bird is expensive, because they stopped producing the chips.

Would these processors work for windows98 or 2000? I use right now 98 and I can probably get my hands on 2000 but I don't think I can afford to buy windows XP yet.

Above a certain speed the processor is independent of OS - of course it will run all of the above
