amd 64 and video

Hey what is going on I am buiding a new computer. I have choosen to go with the AMD 64 3200 retail but here is my question. I have been reading tons of post going back and forth about which is better the newcastle vs the clawhammer.

I am going to be doing 50/50 on gaming and video editing/encoding. So which chip is going to be better for me the clawhammer or the newcastle. Thanks in advance for everyones help .

If you can afford it I believe the socket 939 A64 3500+ is about the same speed with intel as far as encoding is concerned. Then some percent faster in games.

from what i understood, the extra 512 kb cache helps in video encoding especially when overclocked... but i could be totally wrong...

as for a mobo...

a relatively cheap one with firewire (for video) would be the MSI nforce3 250 board or the epox 8kda3+ (the j doesn't have firewire)

Get a Socket 939 processor of any kind prefferably a 3500+ and get an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and have fun. It is the best setup out there right now. However if it is at all possible i would wait a couple months for Nforce 4 to come out. cant wait

Thanks for the info i know that this a little off subject but what graphics card is the best bang for the buck for like i said early on video and gaming.

radeon 9800 pro is the best bang for the buck right now. also, if you could afford to go for socket 939, then go for it. you will find it to perform better in encoding then intel. if you dont have that kind of money, intel is good (only for encoding), but if u like amd, then go for it.

Last question i swear as far as ram goes what is the big deal with the heat sink and all of the different types such as the cosair XMS vs kingstion hyper x etc...
