AMD 64 SPEED CONFUSION!!!

right im very confused bout what amd is doing with their speed ratings or watever

my friend said he jus got a A64 3700 and rekons its got 2mb of cache and iam suspect of this

this is how i think it goes tell me if im wrong

2800 = 1.8Ghz with 512kb cache
3000 = 2.0Ghz with 512kb cache
3200 = 2.2Ghz with 512kb cache (or the older clawhammer which is 2.0Ghz with 1mb cache)

3400 = 2.2Ghz with 1mb Cache
3700 = 2.4Ghz with 512kb cache

future AMD 64 4000+ = 2.4Ghz with a 1mb cache

correct?

my 3400 is stock speed and it has 512 L2 cache and runs at 2.4ghz.

i think that u might be thinking of the older 3400+ with the 1 mb L2 cache

Its kinda shocking that an extra 512 cache/ dual memory makes up a newcatsle 4000+ from a 3400+ newcastle.

Mhz do matter.

It's only the beginning of the confusion considering:

-3 different sockets for Athlon64,
-Sempron being rated against Celerons thereby being slower than Athlon XPs with equal "XXXX+" ratings
-and all the Intel chips that AMD is rating their cpus against are moving to a totally different numerical rating.

Many buyers will be burned, I'm afraid.

That and the difference from a 2.4GHz 3400+ and a 2.4GHz 4000+, a difference of 600 points, is nowhere near the same as the difference between a 1.8GHz 2800+ and a 2.4GHz 3400+ (also 600 points). Inconsistent scale.

Concillian good point, just like one i was making, but with them ahead of Intel ( Intel cant even get many 3.6's out the door, nevermind 3.8/4.0 Ghz) they can take the mickey. But it also falls on customers, dont forget the 90 nm improvments either

ya im sorry to say but im confused to... when i was with intel, it was so much easyer to understand because it was all so simple to get and no confusing mb thi and ghz that. but amd is defanatly superior to intel
