Picking a game like Forspoken to serve as a launch title for your new technology isn't doing it any favors.
Maybe that's their strategy. Get more people to play Forspoken in order to experience FSR3. Probably some backroom deal where if number of concurrent players exceed a certain number, both AMD and the game studio pop out the champagne and get crazy drunk and party all night!

My experience is that this is not necessary. Just run the AMD verification tool with the 7800XT you have installed, don't even unwrap the other one if you don't really want to change.

I activated a code from a 6500XT purchase on my 6800 PC and it unlocked all three titles that were available at that time. I had not redeemed any offer before with the 6800.

I'd run the tool and if it sees a 7800XT installed now and that's got a promotion you are good to go IMO.

Cool it will download overnight, thanks for the suggestion it's good to go.

The demo is free and allows anyone with a compatible GPU to try out the new features. I would not consider this game until it is under $10 myself, so I doubt it will stimulate any sales.

I am happy with the Hellhound. Have not done the undervolt and so far have left it with the 2755MHz auto overclock.

This is just my theory that AMD and AIBs had a plenty of 7800 XT cards, but only a limited number of Starfield Coupons.

As of now, after the promotion ended, Micro Center is fully stocked with number of models of cards, including the highly desirable HellHound.

-Ehhhhhhhh why not just stock a ton of 7800XTs and then let people know you're out of codes (just do a whole "while supplies last" disclaimer). The person is at the store, already wants to buy a 7800XT, sure some people would put the card back but the rest will buy it and a small number of those might pester AMD support for a Starfield code.

I think more likely is:

A) AMD is just incompetent with this kind of thing or

B) The cards were getting restocked but they were flying off the shelves thanks to the Starfield code and now they're sitting since the promo has ended or

C) The early batch of cards were going to be purchased by AMD diehards no matter what, code or no code, and now that inventory has been moved through we're back to the status quo where the general buying public ignores AMD stock.

Funny that someone at Micro Center, when he told me they were out of codes, said "sorry for inconvenience" - like losing $100 is just an inconvenience.

I am still going to see if I want to bother and try to demand one from AMD. Because got another code, for "Standard" version of Starfield, for the 7800x3d CPU.

I was just going to gift one of the codes...

I would not have bought it without Starfield Premium being included. It's a meh deal without it. Maybe another good game bundle will show up for the holidays. Or the price will drop. I think there was a model or 2 available for a hot second for $450 the other day?

Without the game it's still better value per dollar than anything else in that price range, but the problem is that's not really saying much.

The other weird part is that I don't think Starfield is worth it's asking price either, so this bundle kind of worked out from both sides.

I think both companies would probably benefit from extending the promotion for another month.

Oh definately. Word of mouth and just watching videos/live streams would have gotten me to wait on Starfield.

How problematic is the reference 7800 XT in terms of the temps and fan noise etc? I can currently pick one up for quite a bit cheaper (10-15%) than the partner cards, but kinda concerned about potential issues.

Hellhound and ASUS TUF are much better. The reference card could be a problem without air conditioning in summer as well as being noisy.

Same power = same heat.
The GPU hotspot temperature could rise too high on the reference card. It's already 91 degrees celsius. And the fans would run full blast to try to bring the temps down. The reference model is more suited for use in colder climates.

-For that kind of savings just go with the reference card...

Yeah, a 10-15% discount vs partner cards seems like a steal with current pricing.

Also, the testing methodology for the temperature differences between reference & partner cards suggests that the table is an illustration of "worst case scenario" and may not be indicative of real-world performance. They just need a method to create a real and stable comparison between the cards that is consistent and repeatable. I'm sure the reference card would be fine when you put it under more realistic use in a case with appropriate airflow.

I've been mulling over a graphics card upgrade for a while now and the 6700XT as been my preference for some time.

My PC has a pretty new Seasonic Focus GX 650W PSU (2yr old maybe?), and the Sapphire Pulse 6700XT has an 8-pin and a 6-pin power connector along with a minimum PSU recommendation of 650W, so in theory I'm good to go.

However, I have been keeping half an eye on the latest gen AMD GPUs and I noticed something odd. I'm aware with recent gen PSUs of this problem with sudden spikes of much higher energy draw which seems to be mostly affecting higher-end models than I'm looking at, but then I saw this today:

This lists the 6700XT spike as being way higher (343W) than the 7700XT (285W) despite the fact that the latter has 2x8-pin connectors.

And yet...
Techpowerup doesn't have a review specifically of the Sapphire model I've seen so I went with the reference:
321W.

I'm aware that different cards will be clocked differently, but the variation makes me wonder what the likely figure is for the 6700XT and whether I might be better off going for the 7700XT if I'm interested in less power oddness.

Thoughts?

Are you planning on running the card stock? On my 6800XT I have a "200W" profile where I have the card overclocked, memory overclocked and the card undervolted. At 200W I get the same performance as the card did at stock settings and 272W.

The new cards are definitely better at limiting the spikes, but previous gen cards can be tamed.

You can ebay a code if you wanted the game anyway. It's still about 50% off the full price. I got the Jedi Survivor code originally with my cpu and then got a Starfield standard code for $40 and it worked fine.

I normally run stock. I've undervolted a CPU in the long term before (AM3). If it's reasonably easy to do and easy to reverse then I might give it a try.

Even $40 more than covers the tax. It's an incentive to make the purchase for me. I'd prefer they lowered the price of the card, but as it was backordered due to popularity, that was not going to happen.

Yes it's really easy with the Adrenaline software. Plenty of tutorials online or we can help you here when the time comes.
