I personally like Fractal Design Ridge.
It supports GPU cards with up to 335 mm length, so It's enough even for Sapphire Radeon RX 7800 XT NITRO+, which is 320mm.
The problem is you need Mini ITX and CPU cooler is limited to 70mm.
Chassis could have been a bit wider for more CPU cooler options.

@Racan: Ridge has only 12.6L volume while NR200 has 18.3L, so It's not surprising It has compromises.

The NR200 is an excellent SFF case and unlike with the Fractal Ridge you don’t compromise CPU cooling. You can fit in theory up to 280mm AIOs and for air cooling you can fit the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE which is as good as the bigger and more expensive Noctua D15.

There’s also avoiding potential troubles with PCIe risers.

Yup. One of my NR200s is the model with the riser cable and glass window you can swap with the white vented one. I think I paid $90 for it. Considering what just the PCIe 4.0 riser cable was selling for at the time, that case was a scorching hot deal.

I am still eyeing the RX 7800 XT Steel Legend which is mostly white. That way when I swap to a faster card later it can go in the NR200.

And shout out to @Rigg who is the one that told me my 6800 would fit. The kicker is I had to remove a 3.5" HDD cage from my full tower Phantek to fit the XFX in it. Then it popped right in the NR200 with very little effort.

Power color 7800XT Hellhound is a Beast, lowest temps with lowest noise (low DB) and 6900XT performance at 520 USD (new egg) or 600 Euros (Germany)

Number one place in the Computerbase.de 7800XT Custom 5 card review

If we just change the conceit and give up on it being a "small case" then sure, that case wouldn't fit where I put my build now and is around double the volume...

-Smallest mATX case I've ever seen is Silver stone's Sugo SG04 (or something, I own the case but I forget it's exact designation). Tower PC that's almost exactly as tall and long as a mATX board, little thicker than your average mid-tower.

Space is saved by stacking the PSU above the CPU on the mobo.

It's been a real beast of a case over the years, currently my HTPC with a 980ti crammed in (not a small card, but smaller than some of the monstrosities out there today) but has been my main in the past when cards were smaller.

Edit: Found it, the SUGO SG03:

…but can it fit a 4090 FE and a 280mm AIO? If so I need to get one. My FormD T1 is amazing for the size, but noise levels and temps aren’t great.

I temporarily moved my system into an NZXT H5 Flow with 280mm AIO and temps/noise are way lower, but now I have no room on my desk.

I gave up on mITX and mATX, and went with a smaller ATX tower on my last build (Corsair 4000D). It didn't take up any more space than my prior mITX case (Corsair 250d) or my wife's case (Fractal Core 500), but cable management and component selection became so much easier, and fan speeds can be turned way down thanks to better airflow with more spots for fans.

Found one example:

If you want a case with the same build quality as the FormD T1 have a look at the Ncase M1 EVO:

You are a good salesperson. I put in my order from Amazon just now. Hellyeahhound 🤘

Promotion ends on the 30th, and they keep pushing the delivery date out so may as well pull the trigger I thought.

Nice! Is yours slated to ship in October? Amazon is now saying ships Oct 9-10 and I'm wondering how that will work with the Starfield promo ending on Sep 30...

Your case almost certainly has much worse component compatibility, noise, and thermals in exchange for that smaller volume. It's fair to say that calling the AP201 a SFF is a bit of stretch but it's still compact and can fit an ATX power supply and a large air/AIO cooler. I mean, what's the point of complaining about having to pay the ITX tax if you still have to buy a more expensive SFX PSU (that often struggle with transient spikes) and an AIO to have reasonably good CPU thermals in a tiny case? Going smaller than an NR200 is going to have higher cost, noise, and thermals no matter how you slice it. Tiny SFF cases are also a PIA to assemble (and cable manage) and often require custom PSU cables and/or a PCIE riser. Stuffing high performance components in a tiny SFF case is usually completely impractical unless its someone like yourself who has an actual space limitation and isn't just doing it for the cool factor.

I've also built in these a few times:

It's basically a Chinese NR200 clone slightly scaled up for MATX and ATX PSU compatibility. The quality on those is actually quite good in my experience although i think the AP201 is a nicer case even if it is a bit larger. I've built gaming rigs in smaller cases than that. I likely wouldn't again unless there was a really good reason to do it.

Mine says it will ship OCT 4-7th. The retailer provides the code, and the purchase was made before the 30th so expect Amazon will be providing it to me. We have until Oct 28th to redeem it. On the other promotions I did need the AMD product verification tool to confirm I had a qualifying product. You should have a couple of weeks cushion if you order now.

My card is in limbo somewhere, it has not shipped, no longer available on Amazon, but can't be cancelled lol. I was thinking wth, I have some Amazon rewards, I'll spring for the 7900XT instead, and it should be available. Still haven't hit order yet, I have time to think about it. But it looks like this launch saw maybe 24 cards actually for sale on Sept. 6th, the rest are supposedly out there, somewhere, maybe the reviewers have to send one back before I get mine.

I was checking the stock of PowerColor Hellhound in 4 New York City area Micro Centers, and they were the first ones to sell out. I think I will just have to jump on the subway the next time I see them in stock.

For the models I looked at on Amazon, they all had free returns. The new policy states they have to be unopened and unused. So if you go with the 7900XT, don't get curious and have a peek when the 7800XT shows up.

The 7800xt vs 4070 looks really good performance wise vs. 4070. Until you see the power difference. 275w full load vs 190ish for the 4070 in games. I've said it's the silicon that gives Nvidia the advantage. 45% more power usage for the 7800XT. The 4070 is indeed ultra efficient. Check out the video and look at the power use across 10 games.

If you're prioritizing power use, sure, the 4070 is better. But if you're looking for performance, it seems like the 4070 is a worse choice for the amount you'd have to spend. If you're gaming all the time, it might make sense to consider that power use, but if you're only gaming a few hours a day (assuming every day of the month), that amounts to what, a few bucks a month at most, assuming some expensive per kWh power supplier.

I haven't seen anything to suggest it the process and not the architecture.

Not to mention it seems people have a lot of success lowering power consumption on the 7800 with a slight undervolt. I'd really like to see a comparison there.

  1. Power is cheap where I live. I will be undervolting as well.
  2. It has 4GB more ram than the 4070
  3. $550 minimum for 12GB late in 2023? LULZ!
  4. Premium Starfield. Every month I own the game it'll save me $10. As it is the only reason I reactivated game pass. There's my energy costs back
  5. I only use RT reflections and raster is much more important to me.
  6. Leather Jacket man with too many spatulas can suck it.
  7. Pimping Nvidia is a really bad look.

This point is always moot. You can undervolt the 4070 too. For my use case the 4070 = less performance, less vram, more money for a quality 3 fan model, contributing to the Nvidia tax instead of boycotting it.

That s total non sense, if you reduce the 7800XT perf down to the 4070 level and cut 4GB out of 16 it will consume about the same power amount +-10W.

@MrPickins didn't fully follow through with the reasoning, he should have stopped at ISO performance.

Consider this, the Asus TUF 7800XT is 7.5% faster than 4070, while consuming roughly 275W versus 200W. Here's what happens when you're willing to give up 5-6% performance on an 6800XT by lowering clocks, no undervolt. The workload is an UE4 game.

There we go, ~70W delta.
