AMD and M/B recommendations

I want to get an amd t-bird and m/b, one that has had good success overclocking, any recommendations? I've been primarily an Intel user so I dont know a lot about the amd stuff, and I have heard the amd cpu's are very easily damaged ? crushed ? whats this all about.
oh and cost is factor, so I dont want the most expensive solution, but not the cheapest either, mid level is what im looking for.

My recommendation is Abit or Asus. Avoid raid unless you need it - it consumes resources, and makes setting up the board more difficult. The crushing problem is related to the attachment of certain colling devices. You'll find plenty of info relating to good colling solutions for amd's on anandtech.

Hey I have the ABIT KT7A RAID I don't use the raid but the extra IDE channels are nice. I would go with Abit for a first time amd user the softmenu ROCKS! Just a thought.

Also don't be worried about the processor be careful and you'll be fine.

I have an abit kt7a-raid with a tbird 750 @ 980..and works great!

I've never used asus but ive heard its a great board as well...dont get the raid unless youd like to use raid or just have the ability to plug in 4 more IDE devices..thats kind of a nice feature for only a few bux more.

the 750 tbirds are sposed to be really good oc'ers cuz they have a 7.5 multiplier hard coded on them (7.5x100) but you can run them at 7.5x133 (1ghz) if you get a good chip. mine stops at 980 stable but thats good ..im at 140x7 with a 40mhz fsb increase technicaly 80 hehe so my choice is the 750..but i hear 1ghz's overclock really well too! hope this helps
