AMD KX7-333 problems

Hi,

I was wondering if someone can help me. I have recently bought a AMD KX7-333 mobo and 256mb of DDR memory and for some reason it will not boot. When you turn it on it beeps once for a second every two seconds. No display on screen or anything, can anybody help ? I have taken the memory out put it in evry DIMM slot and tired again but failed. Someone told me that it may be the Athlon XP 1900 chip that is drainging the 250 watt power supply but I don't think so.

Any ideas, I am really stuck.

Try unplugging everything except just the processor, motherboard, and RAM to see if power is really the problem. Alone, the CPU will not drain 250 watts.

Yeah I have doen that and it still beeps. Do you think it might be the memory ?

I am not familiar with the Manual for your board but my guess would be that within the manual there is a notation explaining what thoose beeps mean. Take about 5 minutes and find out. If it honestly does not have anything in it I would check out the FAQs at the corporate website.

yeah i have doen that found a website that has the beep codes for AMI and Phoenix BIOS chips. The AMI sounds liek mine (not at my house so I cannot look at the machine) and it says on one beep like that it is the System RAM failure and I ahve to get another mobo. Oh the joys of personal computing.

What brand is your power supply? Is it on AMD's approved list? Also what brand is the motherboard?

250W is on the low side for an AMD 1900 and would be my prime suspect. Other than that is the memory brand name, good quality generic or budget?

Just for your information, I quickly checked AMD's Athlon XP Approved power supply list for you. They list only one 250W p/s as being suitable for Athlon XP - the Aopen FPS250-60GTA. However, it is only suitable up to an XP 1800.
