WoW, and I thought that my Athlon 1,2 @ 1,3GHz was hot!!!!!

My CPU is 40-42 deg C at idle and 45-48 deg C at HEAVY load (Ripping DVD's with FlaskMPEG/DivX for many hours).

My 1ghz t-bird runs idle at around 48C and underload around 52C.
Im using a coolermaster fan w/ asus a7v133 mobo.......
BUT asus pc probe reports as 57C...thats wrong..heard rumors that asus pcprobe reports 10C higher than original for safety purposes....

Techie 333, since the thermister is located outside of the core, it reads the air temps in the socket.. not in the actual core.. so the asus probe adds ten degrees to make up for it.. cause it is actually hotter in the core than in the socket.. AMD really has to come out with internal diode thermistors.. this tempurature confusion is crazy.. anyone with temperature questions should go check out Mikewarrior's sig..

I got my 256MB PC2100 RAM from a local computer store here in Grand Rapids, MI. I bought it the very same day they got it in stock. They didn't even know the price of it and had to look it up before selling it to me. It was $300 for the stick, but it was worth it. I've been waiting for DDR since November.

I dunno. I just can't get over how hot these AMD's run. Even though it is said that these temps are within the design specs, I can't believe that the longevity of the chip isn't affected by this. My PIII 933EB runs at a comfortable 38C under a normal load. My friend just broke down at a computer show today and bought one of those Thermaltake super orbs for his 1GHz AMD "on fire". We'll see what that does, no wonder he named his machine "HellBox"! :Q

My Athlon 1.2GHz is running with a cool 1.55 volts. I even switched my cooler and have a smaller and slower RPM fan on it. It's nice and quite, just the way I like it.

Not to be poophead, o.k. I am a poophead for saying this but you can't boil water on that (Water boils at 100C, 212F).

Note: What BurntKooshie said is partially correct.
Only Althon 1.1 & 1.2 G are rated to 95C. The rest of them have 90C.

The temp is VERY DIFFERENT than the temp you see on MB. These 90 or 95C temp are temp at junction. You will need to add 15~20C to your temp reading to get junction temp.

My 1 gig T-Bird I looped 2 tie wraps around my heatsink and through the screw holes and piggybacked a fan from an Athlon Artic cooler I had, because the fans bigger, I couldn't screw it on.
I was running at 52 cel now it's running at 44 cel

Under load mine 1Ghz runs at 44C. I'm very pleased. I used a taisol HS with a bigger fan and some silver grease.
