AMD or Intel?

Hi guys,

I am thinking of building a fast, silent system. I've always used Intel in the past. I am about to build a new system, which one should I go fo, Amd or Intel?

I have heard a lot of good things about AMD lately. Please give your suggestions.

AMD will be better for silence, unless you're attempting too either cook or heat up your house with a passive heatsink on an Intel CPU.
Intel's chips waste too much energy to be effectively quiet.
I've ran an A64 3200+ with a passive heatsink without problems, but had higher temps than if I were using active cooling. I wouldn't dare try it with an Intel chip.

AMD is much faster and quieter than Intel. I'd definately go with an Athlon 64.

Scenario 2: you are something else. get amd

amd is superior for gaming.

I will mainly use the computer for surfing the web, Office suite, some photoshop and very little gaming.

What mobo and amd would be the best to get?

Maybe less heat, but as far as noise that can be solved depending the on the HSF combo used.

ok what AMD processor should I go for "bang for my buck"? and what mobo etc are the best?

Will an AMD outperform Intel most of the time?

Neither an AMD or an Intel CPU will have much of a performance differance since all you are doing are really basic tasks..well except maybe in photoshop..either an A64 3000+ or a 3.2ghz P4 should be plenty for you, with 1 gig of ram, or maybe 2gig if you work with a lot of large files in photoshop. The P4 might actualy have a slight advantage in photoshop, but the A64 will run cooler, and be faster in most everything else.

Jose that sounds Great.. I will take all that into consideration. I checked out Halo and Doom 3 on Mac, it's awesome, I am sure it will be great with that specs. I also do alot of video/Audio editing and burning so that will be helpful as well.

i see this statement quite often that AMD is beeter bang for a buck, but when I see systems built they are almost identical in price, more or less. so, why is so much hate for intel?
heating up the room... so?if it's stable then I don't see problems
