Disappointing to say the least. Hopefully the stuttering is fixed with a new driver. BTC mining may be a different story though.

The cost of a 7990 is prohibitive regardless of what you're doing with it. You can get the same performance out of two 7950's and those go on sale for under $300 all the time.

1x 7990 for $999 and 8 games

vs.

3x 7950 for less than $900 with 6 games

It's a no brainer unless you absolutely must have only 1 PCIe slot taken up... I hope you have good cooling either way. Well, okay, the 7990 is also quite a long card so I guess it can grow your e-peen if your case has room for it.

Single GPU cards > Dual GPU cards.

Disappointing card, needs to be cheaper in price. Who cares about all these games when they can omit everything except for the standard never settle and just price the thing $100 less.

That article sounds like it was written by AMD's marketing department. The problem is that

a) many gamers already own one or more of those games

b) even if they don't, they might not want them and the resale value is low because

c) you can buy those games yourself for cheap in many cases, e.g., Deus Ex is down to $5 on sales

and

d) even if none of the above sways you, consider how you can get the same performance with two 7950 cards and get six RECENT, higher-value games.

Unless you absolutely can't live without saving a PCIe slot, it makes little sense to get a 7990 over a pair of 7950s. That's assuming you are aware of how broken crossfire is in certain games right now and that the alpha drivers may introduce input lag and still don't do as well in frametime tests as NV cards. I can't believe the people who ripped GTX 690 and Titan as poor values are basically shrugging at the 7990's poor value. ALL THREE suck in price/performance!

Would be interesting to know what percentage of 7970 can run at 1GHz with 1.0V or less. For binned parts 1.2V seems very poor - for a low volume part I would expect better binning.

The driver fix computerbase tested was alpha not beta:
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/grafikkarten/2013/amd-radeon-hd-7990-im-test/13/

so probably will take a while to get released.

Both my 7970's can run 1000mhz @ 1.0v

EDIT: Disregard my sig, I haven't updated it. I run both at 1100 1.1v now.

BTW here is the 13.5B2 driver link. So many trolls on this thread.

That is not the driver PC Perspective got that actually has some runt frame fixes or as they call it "frame pacing".

http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphi...lta-Gets-Frame-Rated/AMD-Frame-Pacing-Prototy

Again, 13.5 does not fix the stuttering with crossfire. PC Percpective even used the latest 13.5 betas in their actual tests but were provided with a separate driver that nobody has access to yet.

They offered a short write up on the new prototype driver and posted a chart that shows that some of the stuttering is fixed with it. So while you can claim 13.5 is available, they can prove that the driver that you can't get is the one that actually fixes stuff.

Here's their article on the prototype driver. http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Frame-Rating-AMD-Improves-CrossFire-Prototype-Driver

My 7970 won't go over 1100 at anything under 1185mV

Two of my 7970s will do 1000@1.0V or 1050@1.05V. The other two require more volts.

7990 doesn't really bring much to the table IMO. It really should be closer to the $850-900 mark.

Looks like the verdict is in...

No, no...it's us that are wrong...because a single FPS number shows AMD is "better" :whiste:

Who cares if that single FPS number includes false frames, aka runt frames and thus is useless...AMD "wins"...all that matters...riiight?

So what does the single FPS number in AT's review tell?

Please share...because the numbers are useless....not matter how you try and spin this to be about me...it isn't....so drop the FUD.

I wonder why this post goes unanswered...or do I? ^_^

I know you're having fun Lonbjerg, but even though the 7990 is a total flop there is some good news here too, namely the prototype driver. 7990 might not have done it, but $800 7970 OC CF and $600 7950 CF will finally become a decent product unlike now.

It's nice to know they're close to addressing the problem, that is the silver lining in all of this. When a good driver is released, I may just celebrate by buying another 7970!

I want to see the numbers before I believe it.

AMD is ripe with promises that never came true and back-peddeling:

-GPGPU physics
-Tesselation...that suddenly got "too much".
-CPU IPC (Dulldozer)

But it will be fun to see if Anandtech GPU reviews is capable of showing what is fixed....with it's useless single FPS number ^^

My bet:
It won't...unless suddenly a reviewer changes his stances and suddenly embraces frametimes...AFTER AMD has fixed it...would be hillarious...and sad at the same time

This should be a Six hundred dollar card....nothing more.

despite mixed to poor reviews, I think it should be selling quite well at $800,

and at that price it would sell excellently, if they had fixed those few games that often get benchmarked and had released the Driver in time.

That is what I am wondering.
Is this truley a universal driver fix from AMD.
Or is it simply a per game basis driver hack (focusing on the most used games in reviews)...leaving users S.O.L with new games...untill AMD gets the game "fixed"?

As far as I know they're rewriting memory managment, focusing on latencies and then ofc. there the CF issues.

I doubt there will be magic CF bullet. There is no fire&forget driver from dev. team perspective. You live each day/game at a time.
They're just starting; NV has been on this much longer.
