AMD retail HSF differences?

Is the 1900+/266 retail HSF the same as the 2700+/333 HSF?

I was wondering because I want to know if it would be safe to use a 1900 one on a 2700 one.

Thanks for any help

Probably wouldn't make a difference if you're not planning to overclock.

It should be fine, but if you see the CPU temperatures creeping into the mid 60s (C) or 70s look into a better heatsink, because at that point the heat may start causing instability.

it might work, but i think they are different; i have a retail 2100+ and a friend just bought a 2500+ and his heatsink is huge compared to mine; his retail hsf keeps the temps 40C idle and 46C load whereas at stock i was still at 46-48 idle, 55c load

Don't forget that the older fans were louder, and probably higher CFM. Those older chips were pretty hot, so it probably won't be that big of a risk. Just watch the temps and if they get out of hand look for a new heatsink.

anyone got dimensions of their barton retail heatsink? the hs i have is around 6.1 x 6.3 x 3.1cm

or can you recommend a replacement for a non-oc'er that won't break the bank. i want something reliable and fairly quiet if possible. i know i don't need those $50 hardcore solutions

can't seem to find any review sites for hsf

ThermalTake Silent Boost is a DAMM good replacement for any Socket A CPU at $30. I'm running 30C ATM with an AMD Barton 2500+.

3 1/16 " ish by 2 3/8" ish by 1 3/4 " ish tall not counting the fan shroud.

It has a copper plug in the center.

It is an AVC 112c86fbl01 HSF.

i had about 3 bartons, and each had a different heatsink. the later the chip is, the better the heatsink in general

My 2500+ came with a MUCH larger HSF than my old 2000+, so I'd expect you'd need a better HSF for the newer processor. There are a lot of good choices out there. I'm doing pretty good with an Aero 7 Lite I picked up at Fry's for free after rebate. Not the very best HSF as far as colling goes, but it does a decent job and it looks pretty cool to boot, something different than your typical HSF.
