Wow, so AMD might actually be executing a good chip here? I am doing a mitx build and just picked up the board and CPU from MicroCenter, maybe I should have looked at Richland more seriously?

Its hard to believe that they were able to cut power usage that much.

Its harder to believe that Anandtech hasn't even done a two page blurb on it.

Seriously?
Yes. Tomorrow

Wow ... I found that hard to swollow since you can pick up the chip from stores.... I'd have thought its more likely that AMD hasn't provided a sample for review.
Judging by its extensive testing and reviews, it seems Anandtech had Haswell for 1+ week.

They missed out on the Richland mobile launch and now the desktop launch :'(

I'm pretty sure AT already has review ready for tomorrow. They are serious website and they didn't want to brake NDA for a few quick page views. Same goes for other big internet sites that will cover Richland.

Another 6800K review: http://www.techspot.com/review/681-amd-a10-6800k-a4-4000/

vs. A10-5800K

+5% single threaded
+10-15% multi threaded
+10% GPU synthetics (but no gaming improvement)

10% higher load power consumption
10% lower idle power consumption

The gaming framerates are exactly the same, which is interesting given the higher clock. They didn't state the memory speed but I suspect it might be 1600 as they've used that in the past.

edit: Another from SemiAccurate: http://semiaccurate.com/2013/06/04/amd-brings-richland-to-the-desktop-the-a10-6800k/

+6% CPU performance
+5% gaming performance

5% lower power usage under load
12% lower idle power usage
Same power usage while gaming

edit2: BenchmarkReviews: http://hothardware.com/Reviews/AMD-A106800K-and-A106700-Richland-APUs-Tested/

+15% CPU performance
+15% GPU synthetics
+10-20% gaming performance

2% lower load power usage
12% lower idle power usage

PCPer: http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Proces...Richland-Finally-Lands/Power-and-Overclocking

+5-10% performance boost (CPU, GPU, gaming)
Overclocks to 4.8 Ghz

6% higher load power usage
2% higher idle power usage

More overclock figures: http://www.overclockers.com/amd-richland-a106800k-apu-review/

4.9 Ghz with 2133 memory
5.0 Ghz with 1866 memory

IGP can overclock from 844 Mhz -> 1083 Mhz (+30%).

For comparison Trinity got to 4.6 Ghz with 1866.

CPU at 4.9 Ghz w/ 2133 memory and IGP at 1083 Mhz:

wow... those percentages are all over the place depending on which site reviewed the chips... i just got an A6 5400k for an HTPC, but am tempted to get a Richland A8 quad core. i got the A6 for thermal reasons and only being 65W, but a quad core and higher GPU performance would be welcome at the same TDP.

I read all the reviews and I haven't seen a direct comparison of ram speeds in the a10-6800k. Has anyone seen a review that compares 1866mhz RAM to 2133mhz on the same CPU? I'm curious if the gains are mostly due to the increased officially supported RAM speeds.

I'd assume the tests are done with the a10-5800k w/ 1866mhz ram and the a10-6800k w/ 2133mhz ram, as those are the highest officially supported speeds, but the reviews are a bit unclear. It's easy to use 2133mhz ram with the 5800k even if it's not officially supported though, so maybe some reviews are doing just that?

This might be why some reviews are showing a larger performance increase while others show only a small increase.

this test have the 5800K with both 1866 and 2133

Not a bad improvement, but still not really up to the task of gaming without a discrete gpu, if you want to be able to play demanding titles at decent quality and resolution. The reduced TDP of some chips is a nice feature though.

I would consider the 120.00 chip (6600 I believe) a good value, but the higher end need to come down in price. They are too close to the i5, and the graphics is not that much stronger than HD4600, although I still am not really interested in igpus on the desktop. If I want good performance, I will just add a card.

If AMD had the strong IPC per core that Intel enjoys the gaming performance could be better. IMO those cores don't push the Radeon cores enough. Expected more from the 6800

Based on the comments Anand made on their Pipeline bit on it, you don't really need more CPU than this for the vast majority of gaming unless you have two high end GPU's.

If you are running CF 79xx on with your APU, that's just a crazy mismatch of parts.

that Anand piece really surprised me but i still think that the HD4600 is benefiting from having those fantastic cores pushing it

I do like the 6700 a bit more due to being on par with a 5800 while wasting less power
