AMD Thunderbird Heatsink/Fan Recommendations?

My heatsink/fan went dead in one of my computers. I was wondering what a good pick of heatsink/fan would be effective, quiet, and cheap for an old Athlon Thunderbird 1.3GHz CPU? Thanks!

All you need is a 60mm fan which blows at least 20 cfm. There are four philips head screws which attach it to the heatsink. No need to remove the heatsink to remove and replace the fan... just dont push hard against it. Somebody you know probably has a spare.

yeah thats a really expensive hsf, and not a fairly cheap one that, with suitable fan selection, is also very effective while still being particularily quiet. I read he asked for "effective, quiet, and cheap" - not "cheap as possible as long as it prettymuch works and wont wake the neighbours".

SK7 + suitable fan is, imho anyway, a most excellent balance of the three. Can always look at the price and quickly determine if it is too much or not.

Pretty daring to suggest a cheap haetsink & fan when you have no idea what conditions he operates under. Protecting your CPU is very important, if it fails with a cheap fan, you will end up buying a new CPU and an expensive heatsink & fan. In the end it will cost much more.

Take a look at what Newegg has, and read the reviews. In a lot of cases you can find someone who has the same conditions you have, like no air conditioning in the summer, ect... And by all means, use Artic Silver too.

slk900+fan, pay a little more know but have the peace of mind in knowing you will never need to buy another socket HSF

Have you ever used Speeze? Not everyone needs $40 heatsink. Speeze or $2 SVC GC68 will do more than good enough job to cool that Tbird.

Alpha 8045. Prices on it are much better now than 2 years ago when I got mine.
