AMD XP2800+

It seems that Newegg.com are the only ones that have the AMD XP2800+ which is in a OEM version. I am looking to get one but would like a retail version...anyone know where I can get one or any other dealers out there to pick one of these up?

will be getting a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe and 2x512MB Corsair XMS PC3500CL2

noticed there are PC3700 Ram out there....any good?

The performance gain with the 2800+ from a PII 350 that you have now will be super-cala-frajilistic-expialodotiious.

Sorry, I can't help but mention that unless you do CAD work, video editing, or lots of Photoshop stuff, 1GB of memory is more than you need. Get 2 sticks of 256 instead. Just search around the forums and you'll see that everyone agrees.

However, if you're a CAD guy, then rock on. By the way, to save you some time, Pricewatch doesn't have ANY 2800+'s listed yet.

Haven't you ever heard of Dual-DDR? 2x256 would be much better.

I wonder when my duron 1.3gherz will be obsolete?? perhap 3 more years down the road? I still have Celeron 366 with FAST VGA and it play all DIVX fine, hmm i no see point in upgrading that one...

The XP 2800 is still very new and has not been released in the retail box version. It is even pretty hard to get the OEM version. I don't know when the retail version will be released but hopefully it will be later this month.

The AMD heatsink and fan isn't really that good though. Maybe you should consider buying the OEM version and buying the heatsink and fan seperately. Check out the thermaltake heatsinks.

Good selection on the other parts. Check this site out, they are selling the A7N8X motherboard for a pretty good price. www.ajump.com

You won't be able to do that no matter how much RAM you have. Trying to disable it will only cause problems.

if you're just watching movies, then it will never be obsolete...the bigger cpus are for professionals who need the power, or hardcore (and rich!) gamers who want the power. And then there's people like me who just like to keep up to date

Sounds like an excellent setup. Definetly get the Swiftech, best HS out there. If you are getting a case window, for the CPU fan use an Antec LED fan, it looks really great

It's not going to provide more than a few percent performance gain unless he plans on using the integrated video.
