Just recently fixed my problems with overclocking where i couldnt get above 2.04Ghz, now running @ 2.4Ghz . My system is running 31C on idle and 56C on load, not sure if thats bad or good. i have my DDR400 ram running @ DDR333 speed, and my LDT @ x4. AMD 64 3000+ newcastle with a Zalman CNPS7000 in a thermaltake lanfire case. If these are acceptable temps then booya!

Any tests you recommend i run to test stability? i ran Doom3 timedemo, and am currently running Prime95, been going about 30min so i dont think i'll have any probs. Thx!

Those temps are great...Run prime95 overnight and see if it passes

Ok, ill do that tonight, i ran prime for 30min and it didnt crash, boosted FSB to 245 and it crashed in 5min, so 2.4Ghz it is! (btw there are 3 prime torture tests, is there one of those 3 i should use to test the CPU for stability?)

Well i ran prime95 overnight and it crashed after about an hour, so i boosted my vcore to 1.65 from 1.625 and its been going for 2 hours now, i think its gonna be completely stable. 32C idle 58C load with the higher vcore.

Forgot to mention this is a Socket 754 A64 3000+ Newcastle.

Ok, quick question, i cant seem to go above 2.4Ghz, not saying thats bad at all but, any suggestions on how to get more out of my CPU?
I tried clocking my ram @ DDR133 and HT @ 1x to see how far i could go with CPU alone but i still hit the same wall.
Would changing my ram timing have ANY effect on my stability or not, because i am setting my ram to a slower speed so wouldnt the timings slow down with it?
Also is 1.65 bad for a vcore? i read somewhere its the max you should ever set it to for air cooling.

Any suggestions?

Greets,
I built 2 systems for a lady at work witht that MB and 2 3400+, neither one of them would do more thatn 200 over stock, but I didnt mess with the volts, as they werent mine and didnt want to wreck them. Both of those stay under 50C at full load.
Also I built my self a system with the A8v deluxe and a 3200. I couldnt get it to do stable at anything over 2400 with my antec truepower 380 ps. I upgraded to the OCZ 520 watter and I am now getting 2500 rock stable at 1.575, Havent really tryed for more yet, Content atm. This guy doesnt go over 44C with Prime tortue, with stock HS and silver 5.

Its odd ya cant get the card to OC, The 3 that Ive had experiences with all went to Ultra speeds with no Prob, again, maybe PS?

well theres my 2 cents hope it makes sense

I dont understand how ur CPU has such low temps!?

My temp, at STOCK, is 45 Idle, and about 60 on load. Am I doing something wrong? Could my HSF be not installed properlly?

yeah, I think that 2.4GHz is pretty much the limit on lower end 130nm parts. most 90nm parts can hit around 2.6Ghz, especially impressive for the 1.8GHz 3000+. Anyways, I think those temps are safe, after all, that's pretty typical for a prescott, anyways, lol. One other thing, if you wanna shave a few more degrees off the temps, you may want to put some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste on that heatsink. The temperature drops I've seen have been pretty big, that might help keep your CPU in a safer range.

you are really shooting yourself in the foot by running your mem at 2T...you get about 1000 points more in sandra memory by running 1T

And we all know Sandra is the be-all, end-all of computer performance.[/sarcasm]

and i assume since you are being a smart ass that you have proof that running 2T is not significant over running 1t?

actually i think i am running 1T as i look @ it, a64 tweaker says 2T timing enabled, but after reading around it appears that enabled = 1T? (confused)

Also anything else you can think of to improve performance?

BTW i'm using Arctic Ceramique thermal paste, so i doubt AS5 will do that much more. (Plus the thought of putting something conductive on my CPU scares me )

And for my GT, i've set it to 375/1040 before and i get very obvious artifacting in 3dmark05. I actually got a bit of artifacting in HL2 on one occasion @ stock speeds recently which kinda worried me, maybe I need a RMA? :frown:

As for a powersupply i have a Thermaltake Silent PurePower 420W which seems to work well.

Also dont think i stated this P95 ran for 8hrs w/o crash, so thats good enough for me

you cant RMA it. you overclocked it

Well, i messed up my FireFox and had to reinstall, therefore losing my anandtech password which i was too dumb to change... but besides that.

I got an AB Audigy 1 from a friend yesterday, and while i was installing it i noticed a bit of dust in my case, (not alot, i keep my case pretty neat considering the comp is only 3-4 months old and i have the window on the side when i notice alot of dust i'll clean it) so i blew some compressed air in there to clean it off, and wow my temps dropped DRAMATICLY!

My idle is now 28C and my load is now 50C, the most amazing change in temps i have ever seen, i had no idea dust had such an effect on this O_O.

Could be luck of the draw, but my 3200 NC does 2.6 quite easily at 1.6 vcore. Won't go much over that though.

thenarcissist, glad you got your load temps down. Mine never gets above 50.

hi,

i actually had the same setup as u do (AMD64 3000+ and DFI lanparty UT nforce3 gb) but the maximum i managed for my FSB @stock voltage is 2.2ghz

hmm..any ideas what i can do to increase the FSB? sheesh, i have seen pple getting 248@stock voltage!

any idea wat sort of stuff i need 2 do to improve overclocking?

wat is the max voltage the AMD can do?
