Amdk6II 450 oc with Epox mvp3g2

I saw here (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1030)
that these voltages where supported 1.8v - 3.2v (in 0.1v increments) for the Epox mvp3g2

now how to increase in 0.1v ?
I can only find the option 2.4 (450@500) and 2.8(too high) on the mobo itself

I need 2.6vcore to oc my Amdk6II450 over 500mhz
currently the cpu is running at 2.4 vcore, the next option is 2.8vcore wich is too high.

btw, that article about the k6II+/III+ is great, my mobo and bios supports those.
How far can an Amdk6II+/III+ be oc?

I've read of K6-2+/3+'es running 600+ Mhz (6x105 or 6x112, haven't heard of 6x124 thought). My K6-2+/450 seemed to run at 600Mhz without problems but I never tested it like that very long time (I kinda dislike overclocking).

but in the meanwhile (hard to get cpu's) I want to oc to 550
any ideas for getting 2.6 vcore?

K6II the jumpers work like an adding machine with a base of 2.0, 1+4 will=2.5 2+4=6 ect on the G2 you can get everything from 2.0(all off)to 3.2(all on)by .1's. so 2.5 looking at it sideways
bottom> 8:8::=2.5 / 88:::=2.3 / 888::=2.7 I think thats all the unlisted combos if I remember right.

If you go for a (+) K6 get yourself a nice HS/fan like the FOP 32-1 Some of the new socketA setups make great K6 coolers (some dont too)

Check www.amdzone.com on there BBS K6x series threads for some good info the Plus's seems to be the nets K6 last stronghold.


Last but not least there is also the better option of not spending money on that K6 and saving for a socketA setup. I hate saying it being on the other side for a while. Now that I have crossed over I know why everyone said this to me. Its a huge difference even going from a K6/2+ clocked at 600 to a stock Tbird 750,a lot bigger difference than I ever thought for just 150mhz.

I say don't bother with K6-2 overclocking, it's not worth of trouble. Running it @550 instead of 450Mhz only brings you ~15% (if even that) extra performance and you probably losing in system stability + issues with heat. If you MUST overclock (can't sleep without it), try increasing FSB speed. Running @4x112Mhz may give you same performance as 5x100...

As for 2.6V vcore, how do you adjust it on mobo ? Is there a block of dip switches or just some jumpers ? My SS7 A-open had 5 dip switches allowing 32 different voltages but only half of them were described in manual.

Off the subject just a bit..but I just placed a K6III+450 into P5A mobo and its running great at 550. My question is, it shows in the bios a CPU Temp of 60C to 67C ...is that HIGH!!??

It is high for a (+) series .13 micron should run cooler than an average K6. What voltage is it at,alot of k6III+'s will oc that high on 2.1 or even default v.

AFAIK ~60C is where K6 should burn down already. K6-X+'es were made in 0.18 micron technology...

It might be for that chip,depends what it says on the cap. I was able to keep my K6-2+ under 40c @600 120/5x/2.2or(later ran at 2.1)it was semi radicaly air cooled lap sanded/stacked and ducted CPU fans. I dont know the P5A so it could be a mesurement difference?

In order to get 2.6V out of this mobo you must put 2 jumpers on the voltage selector. If memory serves me right, put one on the 2.2 and the other on the 2.8 pins and this combo will give you 2.6 volts. If you are not sure check the voltage in your BIOS at boot up and this will confirm your new voltage. I have the same setup as you and run my K6-2 @500mHz on this mobo with very, very rare problems.
You can experiment with the jumper settings to get these tweener voltages...Just check your BIOS after the new settings to avoid too much voltage change.

Tnx alot for the feedback, I'm gonna try the combinations with the dipswitch

b4 I got a better hsf I had 58c at full load without oc and I heard that some Amdk6II even survived at 68c and burned out at 70c (I'm not gonna try out)
now I'm at 36c full load (or 45c after 6 houres, the hsf was blowing warm air instead of cool air, have to get a blower for that)

I'll post the results tomorrow.
And if I's get an Amdk6II+, should I try 1.8 or 2.0vcore?
1.8 is less heat

well I tried 2.5vcore and 5x103 or 4.5x112 ran great but 5x112 refused(screen stays black) this must be the end of the line.

DONT TRY THE TWO JUMPERS ONE ON 2 ONE ON 8! THAT IS 3.0v!!!

tmac Geez have your memory checked and overhauled

Like I said before,think of the jumpers like an abicus. So for 6 you would connect the .2 and .4 dont try any higher than 2.6v its really not worth trying that high without very radical cooling.

Note: At 3.2v they go poof,been there done that.

well I tried 2.8vcore (when I didn't know how to get 2.5 /2.6)
it doesn't work very good, even better I got mobo bleeps.

4.5x112 wasn't totally stable at 2.5vcore , it resetted while benching 3dmark2000.
It should be save to try 2.6vcore right?

I got pretty ok cooling (not radical though)
but I wonder why I get same temps for 4.5x100 (normal) 4.5x103/112 5x100 or 5x103
full load at 44/45c and idle 31-33c mobo temp is something like 32c.

And I used my old cpu fan as a case fan, it doesn't seem to help maybe because it is blowing hot air in? (or after a while recycles hot air in case?)
my computer is pretty close to the radiator
And what about these blowers?

1 and 3 is 2.5
but what is 2.6 then?
