AMR to PCI?

If you wanted to insert an AMR modem into a PCI slot, you would have been better off just buying a normal PCI modem, since they are both essentially WinModems; in most cases PCI modems are just a few dollars more expensive if not the same price as an AMR modem.

I can't see it going the other way as why would you want to plug a PCI card into an AMR slot? Besides, the components on the card are different, so that doesn't help either.

from what I know about PC architectures, there's really no way of doing this. A PCI device has to be on the PCI bus....you can't just slap an adapter onto the AMR slot. The traces have to be connected to the PCI bus.

i want to be able to use the amr as a pci with an adpater. but I guess I am SOL?

I think you are out of luck there. There really isn't much on the AMR riser itself....just a few chips and the plugs for the phone cables. Most of the functionality is built into the AMR architecture itself, unlike PCI, where most of the hardware is on the card.

I'm sure someone would be quite happy to buy that AMR riser from you though, since they are pretty difficult to get. Is there any reason why you want to use it in a PCI slot instead? Your motherboard does not have an AMR slot? That's rare for a relatively new motherboard (without knowing what you have at the moment).

apparently nobody knows the bandwidth of an AMR slot... I asked that earlier and got no replies. So for all I know, it would be far too slow for PCI devices
