OK, so i'm completely hooked on Unreal 2K4, well, while playing it, and when i'm in really fast paced games movin my mouse everywhere, the textures on the walls and what-not, look like they're tearing? I am really confused, what could be causing this. Any ideas? thanks

in the driver profile?

edit: OK, so I went into the driver profile, created one for unreal 2k4, and turned vsync on, if my refresh rate is 85HZ will I notice a big performance decrease? or not?

If your refresh rate is at 85hz, your maximum FPS will be 85. If your minimum framerate was already comfortable before, it still will be. Nothing is changing except your max FPS basically, to keep it in tune with your monitor's refresh rate.

Well, I set it to vsync, at 85hz, and I boosted the texture detail to high, and the world detail to high, I ran a chart, and even in the thick of invasion mode, I'm getting no less than 46 FPS, I hit an average of 60-70 when i'm playing a regular deathmatch or game, i've yet to try onslaught, but the problem does seem to have diminished, I can't really notice it anymore like I used to, thanks guys. (Keepin this 5700u overclocked helps compensate for the detail settings anyway, I am just realizing this I gotta stop bein suck a wussy with the detail levels )

The one thing that sucks about Vsync, besides a small input latency, is that your framerates will mostly likely be either 84, 42, or 28fps.

yeah, and getting more input latency and then losing performance due to lack of VRAM - if it comes to that, no thanks.

To prevent your frame rate from chopping in half, turn on triple buffering. To do so, open your UT2004.ini and go into the Direct3D section. You should see a UseTripleBuffering=False setting there. Change that to UseTripleBuffering=True . Save the file and start the game. Your refresh rate should be a lil smoother and the fps won't automatically drop to half of your refresh rate.

But then again, enabling triple buffering may hurt your peformance if you don't have much VRAM, or if you use high res with high AA&AF.

hmm, never knew that. Is that true both with or without vsync enabled?
No because vsync is causing the performance drop. Turn it off and your framerate will always run as fast possible.

yet turn vsync on with triple buffering and you will probably get acceptable performace with better image quality.

I'd really like to know how to do this, could someone please explain to me how I go about doing this?

Well, I think it should already be available as a feature in your Nvidia control panel.

But if not, do this:

open My Computer
open Driver C: or where UT2004 is installed
right click on UT2004 and search for ".ini" as part of the file name.

Then open ut2004.ini and make the changes.

If it asks what program to open the file with, use notepad.
