Ok heres the story
Got a bunch of new stuff to upgrade my PC with yesterday including an AN8 ultra motherboard. Banged everything together and it booted to the BIOS splash first time. Easy i thought gonna be no problems, now all i have to do is install Windows XP.
So i do the format and and the copying the files to the hard drive and it restarts. Heres where the problems begin...
It keeps locking up at the installation menu so eventually I call up the my re-sellers tech support and ask them if its ok to install the new BIOS which I then do. Great it installs and everything seems fine. I create my user account, install SP2. I start installing the usual stuff drivers, utilities...etc and lone behold it starts to lockup while i'm installing stuff. I restart several times and still get the same problems.
So next i try reinstalling windows which works then i get the same problem again except much worse. I get a BSOD with a stop message which i just got a glance at as the computer then restarted. Once the pc restarts i get a popup saying my C:\windows directory is corrupt then the computer locks up again.
So now I think i will RMA the board. i was issued with an RMA number on my first call and I've let them know of the new developments. Before i do this I was wondering if anyone can help me with my problem.
Specs i was running were
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice)
Abit AN8 Ultra ver 1.0 (1.6 BIOS)
1GB PC3200 DDR (2x 256MB twinmos & 1x 512MB Infineon)
Leadtek Geforce 6800GT 256MB PCI-E
Maxtor 120GB HDD 7200RPM
Pioneer 107D DVD-RW
Tagan 420W PSU
Any help is much appreciated as i don't want to send the board back, have them inspect it and then be told theres nothing wrong with the board.
