Nope. My Euro spec M3 has the full 343hp and is manual.

At the "maximum attack" setting 6...the best quarter mile was 13.61 sec., two-tenths slower than the manual M3. The difference was seen by 60 mph, the SMG car making that sprint in 5.46 sec. versus 5.22 sec. for the manual. On setting 6, the SMG car was astonishingly consistent, laying down three runs that were virtually indistinguishable on the radar traces, with quarter-mile times separated by only 0.02 sec.

The 4.8 time for the manual M3 is possible but rare.

Actually, Z4 M is faster than both, with equal drivers.

M3 Comp Coupe: 0-60: 4.8, 0-100: 12.0, 1/4 mile: 13.4 @ 105.6mph, 60-0 (ft): 114, 80-0 (ft): 196, 200-ft skidpad: 0.88g

Z4 M Roadster: 0-60: 4.7, 0-100: 11.5, 1/4 mile: 13.2 @ 107.9mph, 60-0 (ft): 115, 80-0 (ft): 208, 200-ft skidpad: 0.89g

I'm planning on going over to the dark side and getting a 135i this summer. Expect it to be modified.

E46 M3's were doing sub 5.0 0-60 pretty easily. BMW is quite conservative when it comes to those times, as well as Porsche.

If I wanted fully-loaded I wouldn't be getting a 1-series. I'm looking at no options but the sport package for around $35k.

Sounds good. This one was north of £40k. Yes, pounds... They had an e92 M3 for £53k that I would take before I drop 40+ on a 1 series.

I'm wondering if you'd accept people with the diesel X5 in this club?

I'd rather prefer the V10 TD Touareg if I wanted a softroader anywho I guess...

For those prices, I agree. But at $35k, the 135i coupe is pitted squarely against the STI and Evo here in the States, where it kicks both their asses in just about every category imaginable (except bad weather driving).
The clincher for me is that N54. With a simple reflash, it's putting down more than 400 lb-ft... at 1500 rpm! :Q

Yeesh. That's more than my E39 M5! What a pocket monster! I'd love to see some 'ring times and track slips from a flashed 135i and 335i.

I find it amusing when people make this car out to be something it isn't...

A simple look at some performance figures, which IMO is a very important category if you say the 135i is pitted against the Evo and Sti, will tell another story...

The STi is on par if not slightly quicker than the 135i at the end of the quarter mile and its slalom and skidpad are definitely better as well. Not to mention the AWD is superior to RWD in daily driving. Where exactly is the 135i "kicking ass" besides interior build quality and luxury?

Why the hate?

While there are no firm reviewer numbers out yet for the 135i for the US, performance numbers for the 335i from C&D say:
0 - 60 : 4.9 secs
standing 1/4 mile: 13.6 @ 105

As the 135i is about 200 lbs lighter than the 335i, slightly better times should be expected.

And really, I've owned a stage 4 WRX for the past 5 years, and am pretty involved in my local Subie club. I know all about them and the pros and cons of AWD.
The STI or Evo will get the launch and the 60 foot time down at the track but no way they'll be trapping quicker at the end of 1/4. If anything, the 135i should be walking by at about the 1/8 mile mark.
As for lapping, it won't even be a contest. 135i all the way.
And for which is better for daily driving, that depends on what the weather is like. In which case, my wife will still have the modded WRX.

I'm thinking that since 4.8 is easily done with a manual 335i, that a 4.7 or better is doable in a manual 135i. Definitely not dominant, but at least equal

It's simple math. You take similar hp/tq numbers, with similar weight figures, take out the parasitic drivetrain loss from AWD, but factor in its launching ability, while adding back in the 135i's insanely superior torque curve, all at roughly the same price tag....

I'm not hating, in fact I love the 135i, it's just not in the same dynamic performance league as an STi... Hopefully one of the magazines puts together a comparison so we can get their word on it.
