Especially when we've been waiting on things like part 2 of the Galaxy S4 review for months. The LG G2 is out already, where's it's review? Lumia 1020? Nexus 7 2013?
Like I said, ask Brian. Anand wrote the two iPhone reviews where Brian wrote the partial Galaxy S4 review. Brian is usually the de facto mobile reviewer, but Anand does tend to get the Apple devices.
Normally, I love that Anand takes extra time with a review. It gives me the sense that they've really taken their time and examined all aspects of the device. Having a review out "this soon" for a device makes me feel like it's rushed and probably part of some agreement to have a review posted before launch.
He did say in a tweet that he had to cut a few things from the review. I, for one, was pretty disappointed not to see the usual pooch pictures.
It most likely came down to somewhat of a business decision. Being late on a review probably doesn't help when some of your money comes from ad monetization. Sure, people will still read it, but you want that 0-Day monetization.
Not that I'm REALLY complaining about the review. There's lots of good stuff in there. I was going to upgrade my 5 to a 5S and pass my 5 down to my wife. Now I'm thinking I'll get her a 5S, then sell her 4S and my 5 to purchase a 5S for myself.
I was tempted to get one, but the rumored strained supply may make me wait for a 6. However, as I mentioned in the other thread, based on the photos/videos that I've seen, I am interested in the new iPad.
One thing that I did like about the review was that it was the first place that finally showed the bottom of Apple's case. One thing that I hate about slim cases are when they take the lazy approach to making ports, etc. accessible by just creating huge cut-outs. I like covering as much as possible to ensure I don't scratch up my device, and the bottom is especially important given I may try to plug in my phone in the dark!
I don't think there's any doubt AT has a bias towards Apple.
I don't get why people keep saying that AnandTech has a bias toward Apple. The iPhone 5s review criticizes some of the odd omissions on the phone, and even outright states that Apple ought to consider a slightly larger phone. If you go back to the new Air refresh, Anand was very pleased about the battery life (for good reasons), but also critical about the low-resolution screen.
I think the problem is that Apple tends to do
some interesting things with some of their devices, and you usually see a bit of fervor about those. For example, Anand was pretty ecstatic over the A6 and now the A7. It's pretty obvious why he was excited from a technical standpoint as the prior was Apple's first foray into designing their own silicon and the latter was the first 64-bit ARM processor, which he outright states that he didn't expect.
To sum it up, you people read way too much into things sometimes. There isn't always something murky under the surface :\
That's a big difference from something like being paid to have a bias, which I'm sure they don't.
No, bias is a bad thing regardless of whether you're being paid or not.
