Anandtech Oblivion Benches

Anands scores seem way too low.
I'm using 84.37 Xtreme G v2's, and with 1920 x 1200 max/v high settings 8xAF and a shed load of texture enhancing (not better performing) mods and I still get 30-60fps (average 45) outdoors, 40-130fps (average 60) cities, 60-280fps indoors (average 90).
Oblivion gates rape my sysytem though and drop me to like 28fps.
That's with SLI 7900 GT. So I'm surpised at how near enough every card they tested performed so poorly even at those low settings.

I agree. Its far from a "hack". Its a beta driver that you can get from ATi's website. Using your logic, reviews should not use any NV beta drivers from nvzone either then. It will more than likely be in the next Cat release, then there will be no excuses from NV fans anymore.

Ive already stated the two biggest problems I have with ATs article. I guess you didnt read before posting, so Ill say them one more time. They used one resolution, 1280x1024. They also used no AA. Who in the world buys SLI 7900GTX's or X1900s in CF, and played at that res, with no AA? Show of hands anyone? Thats the two biggest problems I have with the review. More resolutions, and better graphical options would help much more. But Ive come to expect that anymore from AT, they are going downhill fast. At least to me.

. Guess you didn't read before posting, as Acanthus linked to the CPU article here, you quoted it. I agree the GPU bechies were lackluster, but the CPU testing was better than FS, so I guess both are going downhill?

I have two XT's in CF, both overclocked well past XTX speeds. 700Mhz core on each, 775 on memory. Both with stock coolers. Im trying to decide what aftermarket cooling I want. Im tempted to go back to watercooling, but Id rather not just yet. I dont like that the new AC cooler puts air in the case, instead of exhausting it out.

i know that there is a CF master which is XT..i just asked if its CF master with XTX or XT..thnx anyway.

i am surprised that my old x850xt does so well.

and after 225 hours into Oblivion, i have *broken* the game . . . i have a character SO powerful that it has become a simple 'walkthru' - at Level 18, even the most powerful multiple enemies fall with a single blow from a Expert Sneak Attack with overmaxed Chameleon Gear [even carrying a torch, right in their faces] . . . 150K in Gold, 6 fully furnished houses and 5 horses [including the magic one] . . .

You don't need to hack the game, it's a driver that lets you force AA thrue the control panel. Or do you count all the changes you can do in the control panel as "hacks" ?

An unofficial driver written specifically for the game using application detection couldnt have anything weird going on. :roll:

I completely agree, beta drivers should never be used in reviews. There is no excuse for either Nv or ATi.

Gotta love this news, long live my X800XL and thanks Ati for allowing me to go over a year without upgrading

Also the engine that Morrwind used was the NetImmerse engine. (Believe it or not its the same engine that DAOC used), so I would guess, since to me Morrowind and Oblivion feel very similar I would guess it just uses a upgraded version of it. (Could be wrong but I doubt it considering how similar they feel to me, Oblivion just looks better but still shares many of morrowinds quirks and similarities imo).
