The (Un)Official AnandTech
PC Games Giveaway Thread
PC Games Giveaway Thread
For those of us who get a little too crazy with our spending habits, we'll often have some extra Steam games sitting around that we don't need. Have some spare activation codes from a bundle? Maybe there's some bonus games sitting in your Steam inventory that you're trying to get rid of? This thread will act as an outlet for those games, so they can go to people who might appreciate them.
Anyone who wants to give away extra copies of games can do so here. To make things interesting, the gifter can bestow "challenges" for potential giftees in order to win games. These are small, fun, non-serious contests people can participate in to prove that they really want the game. (It can be as simple as: "Write three sentences describing why you enjoy survival horror." Or, "Write a caption for this image. The winning caption gets a free game.")
Rules
To keep things under control, there are a few simple rules to follow:
1) This is a gifting thread only - NO trading. If you would like to trade with someone, do it in another thread, or somewhere else entirely. This thread is purely intended for gifting and giveaways. When the Summer/Holiday sales roll around and people want to trade, there will be a thread for that. Just don't do it here.
2) To receive a game, you must be an AnandTech forums member for at least 6 months. Again, you must be a community member for at least SIX months. Period. This is to prevent noobs from registering on the forums just to mooch free stuff. If someone asks for a game, and they're account is only 1 day old with 1 post, then ignore them. (Or point at them and laugh.)
3) Game keys must not be posted publicly, and should only be sent through PMs/Private Messages. This helps enforce rule #2; free games should only go to established forum members, and not to random visitors trying to get freebies. This is also necessary to make sure the key actually ends up in the hands of the person it belongs to.
4) If the gifter holds a contest for a free game, the potential giftees must post their answers/entries publicly in the thread. While gifts/keys themselves are sent privately, everything else should be posted publicly in the thread for everyone to see. It's more community-oriented and fun this way. If you're contest somehow requires private messaging for security/safety reasons, then it's probably not appropriate for here, and shouldn't be done at all.
5) After you have given away your game, edit your original post to indicate that the game has been taken. This is to eliminate confusion, and prevent people from requesting an offer that's already been taken. Not everyone reads through the entire thread. Save people the extra work and just edit your post.
Finally: Keep things civilized, and - more importantly - be nice. We're all friends here. The bigger of a douche you are, the less likely I'm going to give you any stuff. Just participate in the contests, follow the rules, and have fun.
If anyone has any suggested changes to the OP or rules, then let me know.
