I started re listening the AnandTech Podcast, and it's interesting to hear Anand, Brian, Ian and Ryan discussing 2 year old tech like Windows 8, Thunderbolt, Medfield/Atom, Jaguar, the mobile SoC space, Apple's iPhone 5,...

What's even more interesting is the time schedule they had back then, doing one Podcast per week. For those counting: we've only had 4 so far in 2014, averaging 1 every 2 months, one of which was being a monologue instead of podcast and another one missing Brian Klug.

I wonder if they have any plans to do this more regularly again. I'd like to hear their thoughts on Devil's Canyon and unlocked Pentium, Puma+, Core M and 14nm, K12, Maxwell, K1 & Denver, Haswell-E, DirectX 12 & Mantle, Android L, everything.

So what happened to the Podcast?

I was actually wondering the same thing, but then again Anand himself hasn't posted anything in months so they seem to be related. I'm sure he's active running this site in the background but letting other editors work out the content in the interim. I'm also confident that upcoming Apple releases will have him back in full swing.

What?

I'm looking forward to his A8 deep dive and what name Apple gave it. From Swift to Cyclone escalated pretty quickly, so we can only wonder what the next one is called.

It would've been nice if they had covered it in a podcast. It was fun listening to Anand his A6 prediction of simply a higher clocked dualcore A9 or A15 and higher clocked GPU. He isn't really good at predicting Apple stuff, having also missed the move to ARMv8 in 2013.

I have guesses what is happening, but according to Anand that Brian is working on a project he can not talk about (it is not clear whether if its connected to Ananadtech or something else like his graduate studies)

It is also clear that while Anand is still running a very good site he is not as workaholic in a public way with lots of public articles like he used to be (Ryan Smith did a recent broadwell article when previously Anand would be all over this, sure it is mostly a die shrink and the big changes are the gpu but Anand likes advances in the x86 architecture and intel seems to be the only one pushing it hard)

I have guesses what Anand is doing as well.

My guesses are tied to something they said once in the podcast that they wish they could do but they couldn't do due to time and money.

Them being silent for so long and not addressing users bring it to their attention seems to imply a NDA. I say this for Anand is very responsive with user feedback in my opinion. For example the thread about sd cards and Anand hate for them, for he thinks sd cards are allowing the OEMs to get away with murder with charging vast price upgrades for only slightly more storage. He thinks that if we had no sd card and 32 or 64 min storage we will be in a better place.

Will that help? I gave it a try. We'll see.

So what does that mean? Also, why would that cause Brian Klug to disappear from the Internet?

I've noticed the articles have been lacking, but I thought it was due to practically nothing new coming out this year. GPUs and CPUs haven't had much news lately and most smart phone stuff drops only once a year. Kind of boring for tech guys these days.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a deep dive or analysis by AT on the Denver presentation that Nvidia recently gave.

Hi guys,

The short answer is that the podcast has admittedly always been a side project for us. It’s something we do when we have the time to work on it, as our written articles need to come first. As of late we have not had the time to work on it due to a flurry of product launches and other events, which is why there haven't been any podcasts recently.

The best answer I can give you is that the podcasts haven't been discontinued, but they're not immediately going to be resumed due to how busy we are and expect we will be over the next month or so (IDF, for a start). Hopefully here at some point things will calm down a bit and we'll be able to resume.

Thank you for your response .

I understand that it doesn't have a lot of priority but, interestingly, you started the podcast a month before IDF, IFA the iPhone 5 launch and Windows 8, RT and Phone 8 launch, with 12 episodes before December.

So it doesn't seem impossible. I think a lot of people would be happy if you did 1 episode every month (guaranteed), with more if you have time.

Maybe if Brian Klug stopped living under a mountain of rocks?

You could not have been more wrong, unfortunately. Now we surely won't get any Podcast or even Mobile Show. What is a Podcast without Anand Shimpi and Brian Klug anyway? I wonder what's so important that made him leave, he obviously didn't tell that.

I hope we get at least 1 episode before 2015. There are lots of things to talk about (friendly reminder, Ryan Smith).

Edit: Maybe they won't 'cause they don't have much time since 2 people left AT in 2014. It would be much appreciated, though.

I'm sad that era of Anandtech podcasts came to an end. Anand and Brian were an amazing podcast duo. The podcasts were the best thing I've ever seen in tech news, even better than articles on Anandtech itself and any tech youtube channels so far.
