Anandtech reviews too easy

I've noticed that the average review of most products that i've seen is not 5, but more like 6 - 6.5. I got an ASUS CUSL2 recently because it got a great review only to learn that it had all kinds of weird bugs and ended up not liking the board at all. I think that maybe the reviews need to be a little more in depth and a little more strict. Just try to keep the average around 5 where it is supposed to be.

Maybe you should have RMAed the board when you first got it? It was most likely a bad board.

How can you say that products that deserve 6+ should get about 5? Also, have you read every darn review he's done, and got the average of them all? Have you taken into consideration that his older reviews got higher scores due to a softer marking scheme?

Hmm.. the CUSL2 is my favorite board of all time. I have never had weird bugs, even when updating to the latest BIOS.

I understand that a lot of products deserve a 6+, but for every 6 there needs to be a 4 and for every 8.5 there needs to be a 1.5 to keep 5 as the average. If this isn't done then it throws off the entire rating system.

My biggest problem with the CUSL2 is the cold boot problem, always boots at default voltage which makes it very hard to overclock. If you go to cusl2.com then there are a ton of people on there with little bugs with USB, restart in 98 ect... I just didn't have a good expirence with the board.

i think this whole rating system needs to be dynamic for it to work. Therefore, for every product released, you need to recalculate all other products for this system to be fair. If not it doesnt make sense.

joburnet - I see what you're saying about the rating system. However, you have to remember that there are tons of products out there that AnandTech doesn't review - many of which are the ones that would get the 1.5 - 3.0 range of scores.

As for the CUSL2 you got - I'm sorry you're disapointed. We still use those boards in our test beds and they've been problem free for us.

xtreme2k - I agree with your idea in theory, but in reality its virtually impossible to implement. Not only would the rating not match up with the review (unless it were also rewritten), but it would take entirely too much time to do. We've got reviews of probably close to a thousand products here and adjusting the ratings every few months would be impossible. However, that's exactly why we've chosen to compare to like products. So GeForce2's get compared to other GeForce2's, KT133 mobo's to other KT133's, and so on.
