Personally, I like my idea of one "LIARS" thread and just updating the subject everytime one of these guys gets outed. What do you think?

I'd be perfectly happy with a SINGLE swift boats thread to cover both sides? God this is getting silly and I think 90% of us agree that this is a total distraction from the issues. So why are you joining in?

Was it a total distraction before these guys' stories started to fall apart?

Actually, yes.

Don_Vito - he does have somewhat of a point. I wouldn't characterize your posts as bitching and whining, but I would characterize them as recently decreasing in the well-though-out department. Not that I'm putting myself as any role model on that

Kerry campaign has fallen for the swift boats trap hook, line, and sinker, just like many of the posters on here are with Rips ploy

Really, he single handedly has made P&N look and feel like OT (as far as having threads fall off the first page so quickly because of sheer volume)

I count ten Rip threads about Sen Kerry that have been updated within the last 3 days alone. He also owns the record for Most Threads With Misleading Titles in Allcaps.

I will not go back and count, but will speculate that out of your last 200 posts, more than half of them will be about you whining or biatching about Rip or Hs or some other conservative poster. DonVito, since you do have the choice to respond, or not to respond, perhaps you are the problem that you perceive.

Ugh...Try not to lump HS and rip in with the conservatives on this board. Unlike HS and rip, there are actually some conservatives on this board that can make an argument without spewing rhetoric in 90% of their posts (One of those conservatives would be CAD). But I guess you haven't been around long enough to notice the posting habids these two guys have. Oh well.

As for me, I think I said the same thing about myself to you recently in a PM. Ironically, I think the root cause is directly tied to your second point - Karl Rove and company have managed, IMO, to completely co-opt the campaign process with a largely fabricated smear campaign against Sen Kerry.

I'm actually not especially fond of Sen Kerry, but I deplore this kind of dirty-tricks politicking, which I regard as corrosive to our democracy, and this election is, IMO, the most important one of my lifetime. It makes me sad as a citizen that it is being derailed so far from the issues.

I imagine I am also feeling some stress for various personal reasons, which can't help.

On balance, though, I think the lunatics are taking over the asylum here, to an increasing degree, and it has dragged the level of discussion down quite a bit. I always think I'm going to take a break, for that reason, but seem to keep coming back . . .

Don't apologize to these hyenas. They'll only throw it back in your face at some inopportune moment.

I have no qualms about my ability to debate anyone here on the issues. Lamentably, none of us seems interested in them anymore . . .

It's that one you've fallen into - just look down!

Seriously. Or are you just making excuses for him.

That's what I thought.

I'm sorry, I stepped away to handle some screaming kids. In my negligance, one of them had taken a "washable" marker and marked a door up with it. Of course, in fine print "not washable on porous surfaces"

So, anyhow - I'm making no excuses for Rip. Rip posts as rip pleases. Rip posts tons of anti-Kerry articles. Obviously he has chosen the route of "paying back" the last 3 years, and in spades. If you don't like his posting, don't respond, and don't imitate it.

You don't know how familiar that sounds - it is quite addicitive isn't it? I'm going on vacation Sept 4 - 14th, perhaps I can ponder things from DisneyWorld.

You, Kibbo, and other recent "liberals" have recently upgraded the board, IMHO. I think a couple of decent conservatives have started posting also. Note, I don't put myself into that group - I'm as bad as anyone, I have self delusions.

Funny, but it seems the McCain-Feingold act has actually served to make politics worsen, when the candidates can "distance" themselves from the SBVfT and Moveon.org's?

Can you explain why Kerry is giving the Swiftboat vets' claims traction through his campaign to silence and smear them?

Can you explain why Kerry hasn't authorized the release of his medical records?

Can you explain why Kerry lied about being in Cambodia during Christmas?

Can you explain Kerry lobbying for renewed trade relations with Hanoi while at the same time, his cousin C. Stewart Forbes, chief executive for Colliers International, was assisting in brokering a $905 million deal to develop a deep-sea port at Vung Tau, Vietnam?

Can you explain Kerry stopping the Vietnam Human Rights Act (HR2833) from coming to a vote in the Senate?

Can you explain lawyers representing John Kerry threatening Internet servers with legal action unless they removed a picture from the cover of his book "The New Soldier" which depicted several unkempt youths crudely handling an upside down American flag to mock the famous photo of the U.S. Marines at Iwo Jima?

Sheesh alchy, I asked what you meant when you said I fell for Rip's ploy. What, exactly, is Rip's ploy and how did I fall for it?

That's not debate - I can't and won't explain anything on behalf of Sen Kerry. Those are his choices to explain. You, on the other hand, can't or won't explain why you called a famous conservative commentator a "lib".

Whatever alchy. If you aren't man enough to admit that you were just talking out of your ass and making excuses for Rip at the same time, I won't call you on it.

Can you explain why Kerry supported a treaty which included nine points, all of which were taken from Viet Cong peace proposals at the Paris peace talks as conditions for ending the war.

Can you explain why, as a national leader of VVAW, Kerry campaigned against the effort of the United States to contain the spread of Communism. And why he used the blood of servicemen still in the field for his own political advancement by claiming that their blood was being shed unnecessarily or in vain

Come on DonVito, I thought that you had no qualms about debating the issues?

You're absolutely right IMO.

Along those lines, I feel strongly about the following:

- There should be an ABSOLUTE prohibition on outside campaign contributions, and indeed the candidates should arguably be sealed off from even spending their own money on campaigning. ALL the money should come from the government, with something akin to the current funds-matching system to benefit third-party candidates. Every sandwich a candidate excepts means a part of him is owned by the donor, and limits his freedom to act on behalf of his constituents. Anyone who, by the same token, gives $100K to a candidate reasonably expects something in return, and the taxpayers lose. The costs of this would be trivial compared to what we spend elsewhere, and it would be a worthwhile investment IMO.

- The FEC/FCC should regulate campaign ads over broadcast, and limit them to those funded by the aforementioned funds. The FCC could require broadcasters to reserve a certain amount of time for political ads (as they presently do for PSAs), to defray the costs to taxpayers of campaign ads. I like, and would continue, the current requirement that the candidate verbally indicates he or she approved the ad.

- There are a lot of bugs to be worked out with this notion that I haven't thought out, and it is far from comprehensive. My point, though, is that all Americans would benefit from an electoral system that didn't give such enormous leverage to corporations and the wealthy. If anything, this is why I tend toward liberalism - I want to see the individual, the "little guy," counted in the political process.

How can I answer "why" Sen Kerry did things? You could presumably answer, say, why you posted that noted conservative David Brooks is a liberal, but won't, yet you want me to be a mindreader in re. a number of decisions you claim Sen Kerry made.
