Looks pretty slick. Although the front of that phone looks like an iPhone. The bezel is very similar.

I'll say pixel density can be huge. I was working on an Android App on a Moto Droid and when I tested it on my Evo I could definitely tell it was much less sharp. A screen like that would take it to an entirely different level.

I compared my iPhone4 to a friends Droid1 and the Droid has a pretty sharp display. Not print sharp, but still pretty sharp

We call higher resolution displays 'Retina displays' now? What do you call my 1920x1200 desktop monitor then?

Seriously, did anyone honestly not believe that Android, as well as everyone else, would get higher resolution screens? It was just a matter of time.

It's called a Fruitless Apple Cinema display.

Yea, I said before, now that Apple has the resolution crown, I'm sure we'll see a full 720p cell phone screen soon enough from someone else. I'm getting tired of the "retina display" categorizing already.

(and for the record, you 1920x1200 monitor is probably bigger than 7", so its probably not a "retina display" )

Retina is just a moniker that Apple came up with in reference to a display that is 300dpi or higher. Its not new tech, not something invented, its just 300dpi+. Its easier to say retina display vs saying 300dpi, plus the general public doesn't know what 300dpi means. Apparently this is a very difficult concept for people to grasp.

Your desktop monitor is not 300dpi/retina display.

Quite frankly, I can't go back to a smartphone that is less than 300dpi. For a desktop monitor I don't mind that its lower res because a desktop screen is farther away from my face than a cellphone is.

Apple gives fancy names to everything, although I think it's a good idea.... much better than the MS naming strategy.

The marketing term, 'retina display' refers to a display with a DPI of 320+, which cannot be resolved by 20/20 vision at 12". If your 1920*1200 monitor is around 6-7" then sure, we can call it a retina display.

And yes, I totally believed that at some point another phone with have the same resolution, thereby dulling that edge that the iPhone 4 has over the competition. However, the edge won't be completely gone until all phones have that kind of res.

I really like the pixel density when it hits 300+, was watching a friend play a game on an iPhone 4 yesterday, it looked amazing...

4.0 IMO would be the sweet spot, 4.3 is too big IMO. not a fan of the DX because of its size

4.0 is perfect. After using my Epic for so long everything else looks so tiny. I tried the evo (store model) and it was so laggy and unresponsive.

4.0 + high pixel density would be awesome.

Though you won't find it sold outside Japan...

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I was very interested in this phone until I read that. I hope someone makes a nearly identical phone with a 3.7 or 4" display in the near future.

But once you put 960x640 on a 3.7" or 4" it no longer becomes a "retina display".
You need something like 1280x720 on a 3.7/4 screen.

it can't be that hard can it? I mean I can buy a 32" 720 for ~$300. How much can it cost to make a 4" one? 3.8" is my sweet spot.

Lets grab out pitchforks and torches and head to Cali!

The higher the resolution at a given size, the more expensive it is to make.

I agree with earlier comments, I just upgraded from a 3GS to an iPhone 4 and there is no way I could go back to less dpi. I love the fact I can open up a webpage and not have to zoom in to read. Yes, I understand that the text is super small, but I can read it comfortably.

You are believing their corporate lies! Keep drinking the kool aid.

OK..I'm done with my conspiracy theory for today. I understand that 720 might be asking for a bit much but come on....it can't be that hard for them to make a decent display. Its not like they aren't already charging $500 (retail) for these phones.

I have the iPhone 4 and Vibrant (had and my sister has one) and IMO I think the iPhone 4 has an edge in term of sharpness and color wise. Though I prefer Android OS and apps because I prefer to have widgets.

Oh no, I'm not saying it can't be done.
I was just refering to people saying they like the retina display but wishes for 3.7/4 screen.
I'm just saying they need to up the resolution if they want to make a 4" screen and still call it retina display.
1280x720 on a s-amoled 4" screen. PERFECT !!!

I'll take my low res 4.3" over a high res 3.5" any day.

This

3.5" is just so damn tiny when you've used a minimum of 4" screen. There's a reason why people get larger tv screens even though it's the same resolution. Of course higher pixel density plus larger screen is ideal but if I had to choose I'd go larger screen. Some people don't care about larger screen which is fine.
