Matt Damon is a leftist and he's always very vocal in his support for the public schools and the public school system, often taking aim at private schools as elitist. Of course, when his own children go to school, they go to, you guessed it, private school. Public schools are for others, not for him, duh.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-sends-kids-PRIVATE-schools-progressive.html

It's OK for him to want his kids taught differently (he wants their education to be more "progressive") so he sends them to private school... but it's not OK for others to do the same. Typical hypocrite.

I am completely shocked and appauled. This is totally unlike liberal progressives. They certainly never contradict their own word!

If I paid for my kids to goto a school it would probably be a military school. Otherwise unless I won the Charter lottery (even with my income) my kids will be attending public school.

Wait - how is he a hypocrite? Did he ever say 'All kids should go to public schools'? Not according to that article or anything I've read.

What he said was this:
At a 2011 Washington D.C. rally, Damon was introduced to a vocal crowd of teachers and declared that he would not have traded his public school education 'for anything.'
'And as I look at my life today, things that I value the most about myself, my imagination, my love of acting, my passion for writing, my love of learning, my curiosity, all of these things, came from the way that I was parented and taught,' said the Oscar-winner in 2011.

but:

I mean, I pay for a private education and I'm trying to get the one that most matches the public education that I had, but that kind of progressive education no longer exists in the public system

Wanting and campaigning for change and support but not sending your kids to a place where those changes have not taken place is not being a hypocrite

Don't forget about his anti-gun stance as well. Most of Hollywood, if not all, is full of hypocrites and nobody calls them on it. Bunch of fucking cowards --- those in Hollywood and those that don't call them on their bullshit.

So he is arguing that the California School System is being run by conservatives so it is okay to send his kids to private schools?

:hmm:

What doesn't quite make sense?

He's an actor. An ACTOR. Why people care at all about these people or what their opinions are is beyond me. It's crazy the influence they can wield. I'll take their opinions on science, politics, and the like just as much as I would the person that hands me my order at the McDonald's drive through. Not that they are bad people, but I just don't give a shit what they think.

Ding ding.

His hypocritical actions are as such because most people don't care about what he actually did - Especially if it was not recorded in the media. The fact that he said something means a bunch of retarded biggots that can't think for themselves stand up and say "Yeah! Matt Damon knows what he is saying!" It's not much different than rallying behind Jesse Jackson et. all because you need someone else to manipulate you.

What are you talking about?

The public systems have gone down the shitter. He recognizes it and says that we need to fix it. I agree with him.

And guess what? Because of the general suckage, I send my son to a private school because i want the best for my children. However, if the public school system stopped sucking, I would LOVE to save 10K a year that I am paying to private school.

Let me give you a perspective from someone that had both. In my late middle school and early high school I went to private. After that I went to public (on my own request). I did WAY worse shit in my private school days than my public.

There is actually plenty of great, desirable education that you can get from public school - all you have to do is reach for it. Getting into an honors class isn't much more than simply asking "Can I join the honors class?"

Yet another limousine liberal who loves to decide what's best for others but yet those decisions are still beneath them.

I grew up poor but in an excellent public school district. I know public schools can be EXCELLENT.

However, within the past 15 years, schools have decided to focus on test scores instead of learning. I disagree with that approach wholeheartedly.

shrug.

He knows Public school sucks. he sees that and want's it to improve.

If he knows it sucks why would/should he send his kids to it when he can afford a better education?

Thank you for explaining it.

I take your part in this as telling us the truth, the way the media behind this story never would. They want us to lynch Matt Damon the way others are stirring up trouble, based on lies, against Zimmerman.

If there is anything to learn from it, it is beware what you read.

I don't disagree - but even in the shitty schools - the honor's classes are pretty decent. How many kids do you think ask to be placed in honors class? Exactly.

Hell, you can complete 1-2 years of college credits in honors classes by graduation.

This is sad even by the Daily Fails standards. And they set the bar pretty low.

So the man speaks out about the current state of the public school system, openly discusses how his kids are in private school and why, and he's somehow a hypocrite?

The problem with public schools is that there are students who want to be there forced to intermingle with those who dont. And at the end of the day, the result is a bunch of kids who mostly dont even want to be there, and all they learn is how to find stupid videos on youtube to make themselves even stupider. The solution is to make schools pay to play. Make it optional, instead of mandatory for the taxpayer.

What doesn't make sense? Your statement. Please point out where he said it was being run by conservatives? It certainly wasn't in this article. Hint: 'Not progressive enough' doesn't equal 'run by conservatives'

His hypocritical actions

Again - what is hypocritical? He never said All or most kids should go to public schools. If you look at his stances he doesn't want nearly as much standardized testing, he wants more teacher authority in classrooms, less teacher time spend planning for standardized testing, doesn't want teacher evaluations solely or mostly based on test scores, the severe reduction of non-core classes and the encouragement of rote memorization at the expense of other learning styles.

Now - most of those are typically related to state and federal requirements for public schools. So if thats what he wants education to be he has to change the laws. Since those laws have not changed and he cannot find a public school that meets his requirements he sent his kids to a private school that did offer those things.

That is not hypocrisy. It would be hypocrisy if the public schools did offer those 'needs' and he still sent his kids to private or he had said 'all kids should go to public schools.'

Thank you for explaining it.

Thanks for the thanks
