I've had a cheap metal case I got at fry's for like 40 bucks, and that thing had the most idiotically designed airflow/fan setup, and as a result my hdd's would regularly run at 40+ celcius. After a year or so of it, i finally got sick of it and decided to build myself a new case.

cooling's done w/4x 120mm yate loons taped with double sided tape to some foam. Using a zalman fan controller for the cpu fan and 3 of the 120mms

note: i know the cooling for the hdd's is overkill, but im traumatized. and i know the wood cutting isn't 5 star, but i did this all with a hacksaw and a wood file (found out later than we had a jigsaw in our garage)

the side panel still needs to have hinges screwed in, but aside from that, it's all done

Cool. I had a wooden computer, but it was just a mobo screwed to a piece of wood along with some other parts...

I might be unnecessarily concerned that the choice of materials increases some fire hazard, but your cabinet-work looks great. Super -- I should say.

Was that yellow pine you used? Why not get some "antique-colonial tint" oil-based wood stain and some clear polyurethane varnish (satin or gloss), then polish it up with 400-wet-or-dry or pumice powder and a little water?

A piece of wood out in the sun will get hotter than the wood used in the case. Feel your case sometime and you'll notice they don't get hot.

Haha, looks nice! What is that stuff on top of the case though? I can't really tell...

Nice job with wood work, looks great, but you could have used a router on the corners to round it out a bit. Stain an varnish would be a nice touch and cloth or other mesh to hide the fan holes. A little disappointed that of all the options with wood. you still made it look like a std. PC case. You should build it into your desk with a Plexiglass top to view the rig thru the desk surface (stealing an idea from Maximum PC - Rig of the month a few months back). It was a sweet idea that has stuck with me. I really don't mean to knock your work. It really is very nice.

that looks great woodies 4 lyfe yo
some constructive criticizm, you should steath your 5.25" drives and if you made your own buttons and knobs, that would be top notch. I would have liked to see you fool around with case layout, but it looks great regardless. i like the dark grain of the wood.. dont stain it.

lol, the most creative thingi did was put the hdds on the bottom with their own kind of wind tunnel, and put my psu upside down so the 120 mm fan sucks in cool air from outside.

i might play around with some stealthing/small tweaks to make this look better as time passes though.

and i wouldnt have minded building my computer into a piece of furniture/wall, but the problem is 1) $$ 2) i need to be able to carry it back to college in the fall
