I would add to this statement, it is a very very common term in national/Washington Politics not local state or city government.

So how is it that nearly everyone here knows it and she doesn't?
I want to personally thank the OP. This thread delivers! :laugh:GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.

Hehe, Obama is a non-entity in terms of actual substance, he can regurgitate talking points he's been trained to regurgitate. Actually that makes him similar to an average Democrat politician.

OMG I see what you did. You replaced Palin's name with Obama's, and replaced Republican with Democrat!Originally posted by: CADsortaGUY

Because we hang out on forums like P&N and are news junkies?
(I usually lurk here and refrain from replying due to the constant flame wars.)

She's from outside the beltway silly ......

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the governor of a state/candidate for VP of the United States should know as much about politics as an ATPN member.

No person with even a passing interest in US foreign policy could not know what the Bush Doctrine is. It has been the guiding principle for US foreign policy for almost a decade. Inside the beltway, outside the beltway, as someone else said it has 800,000 hits on google.
There is simply no excuse. She has 'foreign policy experience', she just doesn't happen to know the dominant US doctrine for foreign policy. You can't be serious.

You are talking about people that are in the actual field doing the dirty work of local and state government. I doubt both mayors or governors have the kind of time we do to keep up with all this stuff.
Let's be honest here, how many people on here could have defined the "Bush Doctrine" prior to this interview??

I know exactly who I'm talking about, and they sure as shit do. I'll repeat: it is simply unacceptable for the governor of a state to not have even heard of the guiding principle of US foreign policy. It is doubly so if that governor is trying to talk about how they have foreign policy experience.
It's not like this is some obscure fact that only policy wonks would know, it's the basis for the US' dealings with THE ENTIRE WORLD.

That Bush doctrine question would have thrown me too. I'm not sure that is an official term with a hard and narrow definition.
