Are they worth the money? I'm tired of carrying my 8330 when I just want to listen to music so I'm looking for a good mp3 player. Any reviews of them going bad?

I have had mine for about 4 months now. I do not regret it at all, I love the video quality and the games I have make my bus rides go fast.
If mine were to be stolen or something, I would buy another one.

I've used my buddy's, and it's pretty slick. I wouldn't buy one as the sound quality is a bit lacking for how much it is, but I'm pickier than most. However I think the touch has stayed the same in price where as the iphone has dropped a bit. I think paying so much for JUST the mp3 player when you can get both for not a whole lot more comparatively is a poor decision.

Ipod Touch was $300 for the 1st Gen 8gb model. There was a price drop for the 2nd gen Touch at $230 for the 8 gb model, and now $300 for the 16 gb model, which is what I purchased a few weeks ago.

With the iPhone 3G though you have to sign a contract, and it only goes as high as 16GB capacity.

Thanks for your feedback thus far. $300 for an mp3 player is expensive - as you can imagine I'm a little hesitant to throw down that much money for one.

If you are looking for just an MP3 player, then I wouldn't advise getting an iPod Touch. They are bigger than typical MP3 players, they don't have as good battery life, they are limited in terms of some features (no FM radio, no ability to record in MP3), they are tied to iTunes, they don't have a lot of storage space relative to typical MP3 players and are expensive for the price.

If you are looking for a portable entertainment device, however, I think the iPod Touch is excellent. You can watch movies, there's a lot of games to choose from and a lot of them are pretty good, you can synchronize contacts and calendars with Outlook (and make it a digital appointment and address book), and probably most useful of all, you can surf the internet over WiFi and download, read and reply to email.

If you are really hesitating, then I would advise playing around with one a bit. Go to Best Buy and mess around a bit. If they don't have a Touch enabled, then play with the 3G iPhone there - it's pretty close to what you get with a Touch. It may not be what you want - they added so much more to it that it's really not that great an MP3 player... especially in terms of size and storage.

If you want an MP3 player for jogging or exercising or going on long trips or storing a lot of your music collection - get something like a Zune or a Sansa; something small and lightweight with a lot of storage and that's relatively inexpensive. But if you want something to waste a lot of time playing endless hands of Texas Hold'Em, playing chess or solitaire, playing racing games, or (my personal favorite) tower defense games, that you can check your email without having to fire up a computer and that's great for watching movies, and that also happens to play MP3's as well - then a Touch is pretty cool.

If you want a basic MP3 player, for $150 you can get an 8 gb Ipod Nano. My daughter has the 3rd gen nano and it's very nice, very easy to use, quick and responsive interface. The bigger memory Nano goes for $199, but for about $30 more you can get the 8 gb Touch. Apple has the price upgrade strategy down to a science to ratchet you up to the next level!

I was going to get a Nano to replace my clunky Samsung, and may get one eventually but decided on the Touch because of the internet WiFi ability. I did ratchet up the extra $70 to get the mid level model just for the memory head space although I don't download tons of stuff, I want the unit to not be restrictive in space if I put movies or photo's on it.

According to other posts here, Ipods are not tied to Itunes, but can be used with Window Media Player with a plug-in. So that does not have to be a limitation.

Battery life can be substantially lengthened if you turn off WiFi when not in a hot spot, because the signal broadcasting uses power too.

As mentioned, you can use the Touch as a PDA with calander, email, phone list etc.

I agree, if you want to just jog, or exercise, the Nano is more ideal for that since it is very small and lightweight. You can get 3rd gen Nano's for somewhat less than 4gen right now also.

One more vote for the iTouch. It really is a slick little piece of hardware and there are some awesome applications for it. The only downside I've discovered in the three weeks I've had my iTouch 2G is that all of my old iPod chargers won't work with it.

That's really wild. Are they all firewire perhaps? I know that I don't have any problem charging my friend's iPhone 2G in my car.

Yeah, same with iPhones. That was pretty much my reaction too.

Even though Apple is the work of the Devil . . . I love my Ipod. The prices are not bad with the 25% Cashback on Ebay.

Hey Divide, that was addressed to me right?

There a number of reasons why I didn't just buy an 8Gb mSD card for my 8830. For one thing, I really prefer iTunes to all other software applications for desktop media management and, as we all know, BB Media sync will not work in 64 bit versions of Windows which is what I run. Second, I dislike the media interface of the 8830, the iTouch is just a better more elegant solution for selecting media. Third, and this is the most important--my car has an iPod interface adapter that allows me to both play my iPod through the car stereo and control all the iPod functions through both the main audio control panel and the steering wheel buttons. To my knowledge, my 8830 could not be so controlled even if I were willing to unholster it and plug it in every time I got in the car (thereby assuring that I would accidently leave my BB in the car innumerable times and thereby miss a host of important calls and e-mails).

I'll re-evaluate my decision when the Storm finally comes out.

I use my iTouch almost like a PDA / tiny laptop - email, web surfing, etc. If you just want an mp3 player, it's a bad choice, but if you're going to take advantage of the computer aspects, it's awesome.

Knew you would ask this question. I personally don't like the sound output on my 8330. Nor do I like the media browser. I'd rather have a device dedicated to just MP3 and or video that is compact, light, and powerful.

Anyone know if the fm radio adaptor apple released a couple of years ago will work with the touch?

I am not a fan of Apple as a whole, but the Touch is the badass king of all mp3 players, period. The only thing I'd recommend to someone over this, is if they needed more space for their music than 32gigs. In which case I'd just recommend another iPod. With WiFi you can browse for your iTune fixes right on the device. I've owned the 16gig model for nearly a year now I think.

Gah the touch is EVIL. I've never loved my iPod as much as this. My 4G iPod I was willing to sell for an MP3 phone (Walkman W810i), but with iPod, its a freaking gaming device. Sure as an MP3 player it's expensive, but it's an entertainment device. Photos, movies, games, blah blah. Makes it too damn nice. $300 was steep, but $229 is relatively reasonable. I don't go crazy on the music like I did on my 20gb iPod so I only put like 2gb of music on my touch now. If space is your concern, then yeah this isn't it because you're not going to be able to just start copying your whole music collection over. It's different to just throw on a few of your favorite songs.
