Hey guys,

Building another comp.. This one is for a co-worker, and he has a 2500 dollar budget.

He has the dell 19" 1900X1200 monitor and already has his OS... Love any input you guys can give.

He DOES plan to O/C this computer and it IS for high-end gaming.

Ok my thoughts.

=Headset + speakers? Man, just get a good headphone amp and sennheiser HD 280's, with a mic.
=Get a Seasonic S12 600w or 500w
=Get a DFI Lanparty Expert.
=Use the stock AMD 64 stock heatsink, it works perfectly, otherwise no complaints.
=I still say raptors aren't worth it, but whatever floats your boat.
=See if you can SLi the 7800gtx's
=For overclocking, get the Crucial Ballistix PC4000 Tracers 2X1 GB
=$38 for a mouse pad? FVK THAT!
=I would prefer cases that don't have 80mm fans, but 120mm, so you might want to revise that a bit. Personal preference, heh.

case: attractive, but overpriced but you know, whatever floats your boat is finne since you haev a large budget.
dvd drive: nice, lightscribe is a largely worthless feature though.
HDD: fast but still a waste. 150gb is not nearly enough if yuo are serious about gaming. I had well over 260gb of games/progs/utilities/mods, after 2 months.

mobo: overpriced, user unfriendly, incompatible pos. It is no longer the king of ocing, it is ugly, it comes with zippy useful documentation.

sound card: fine

power supply: if you have 2.5k, you'd better get sli. get this psu(60A 12v rails)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104015

sound sysyem: fine
keyboard/mouse/headset: fine

THermal grease: get some ceramique. It works basicalyl just as well but it has no problems with destroying your cpu by acting as a) conductor/capicator or b) glue

Memory: waste of money, performance with this ocing ram will not increase in game unless youl ike ot play ut2004 botmatches at 1024x768 no aa all day.
get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231039
valueram will not decrease your oc, and your performance will suffer basically none.

mouse pad: worthless you have a laser mouse now, it'll track on a mirror if you wanted it to.

cpu fan: overpriced.
bigger fan:

cpu: optys tend to be better at ocing
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103585

gfx card: 2x 7800gt for sli. price: 530

there you saved some from the mouse pad, hdd( a lot saved), ram, fan, spent some more on a psu, video card, motherboard.

well any decent
seagate 7200.7 or 7200.9(avoid 7200.8s becuae of lackluster reliability)
Samsung
WD

would be fine.
Seagate 7200.7 are sorta slow but quiet
7200.9 are loud when seeking but are somewhat faster
Samsung are quiet and cool and decetly fast but are oem only drives if that bothers you
WD is just overall fine. nothing really exceptional but nothing really all that bad.

I'd go with the 500watt psu from fortron. No need for the 700watt, then get on of the OCZ phase changes when they first come out. : )

what about the hitachi tk250? its SATA 150, but seems to have good reviews...

Well the power supply depends on what board I go with..

Is the new asus sli better? or the dfi expert? I've worked with the dfi sli-dr and some of the old asus' boards..liked them both.

I went dfi ultra-d mostly because 1) wasnt planning on going sli since it was over 2500 bucks and 2) because he wants to get it o/c'd as best as possible... Is the new asus a good o/cing board? or the one you listed above? doesnt look like thats the new one.

Thanks!

why blow it all on a computer? hell for less than 1/2 that you could get 90%+ of the performance, mostly coming from the cpu. but fromwhat you have listed here are my recommendations.

get a cheaper nec burner - oem unless he needs the software

get a 74GB raptor if he really wants the 150GB for 1/2 the cost and then get a large secondary hdd. i would only spend $300 on scsi in a server enviornment

get the epox m/b everybody around here raves about

get some value ram and use a divider when he wants to o/c.

for a cpu i would get a opteron 165 since he wants to o/c and since they come with a nice hsf you can get rid of the one you selected. he will still have 2x1MB of cache and in theory should have a little bit more headroom over a x2. or hell, if he really wants to o/c get a 144 or 3200venice and o/c the sh!t out of it and then in a year when you can actually really(in theory) use dc for gaming, pick one up cheap...

one more thing, if he plans to o/c why can't he build his own machine? looks like you are tech support now

the new asus waas able to oc the cpu to 255x12 while the dfi vould only do 238x12.

Stick with the BenQ it's the best one there is at the moment.

You're spending the money in the wrong places, if it's for gaming then you should be spending a lot more on the graphics cards. Note the plural there.

The kitachi 7k250 is the fastest 250Gb drive around, if you can go for the WD4000KD then i would, very very fast and still economical in terms of $/gb.
