Hey guys,

Just bought a GTX280 and to my surprise it will not fit into a Antec P180 case. Middle drive bay is blocking about 1/2" at the rear of the card when seated into PCIE slot 1. Slot 2 seems to be a go as the SATA connections are right there blocking a good seat.

Anyone have any advise or tips? It might work to move the middle drives up top into the 5.25" drive bays. Would mean trying to find some rails, and I thought I would call Antec to see if they had anything.

As popular as this case is and this card I figured I would ask the gurus.

Thanks alot,

Paul

It was an issue with the 8800GTX, so I wouldn't be surprised if it continues to be a problem for the highest end cards for a while. I take it you have too many drives to just use the bottom cage?

Using both the bottom cage and the mid cage as I have 5 total drives. Current 8800GTS fits fine...

My GTX 280 fits in my Antec P180 just fine in PCI-E slot#1. It does not interfere with the HDD bay. It's exactly the same length as my 8800GTX. But the cooler is larger and it sits closer to the motherboard covering 4 of 6 SATA slots, so I needed to use an angled SATA cable for my optical drive which was plugged in to one of the 4 covered ports or else the GTX 280 would not fit.

EDIT: OK, now I get it, it's the actual hard drives that block the card because they stick out of the back of the cage right? By looking at mine I think you could put 4 HDD's in the bottom cage and 1 in the top slot of the middle cage and fit the GTX 280 in.

Depending on your situation you could get a new, fast, large HDD and ditch some of the others.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I think I am going to just move the middle drives into the top 5.25 bays for the time being. I found some mounts and this will be the most non distruptive route.

I'll just make sure to plan around this beast of a card on my next system build.

You just need a 3.25 to 5.25 kit for the hard drives to fit in the 5.25 slots. Then use the supplied Antec rails to slot the retrofitted drives in. You can probably manage to use the rubber dampers on the 3.5 to 5.25 kit to reduce vibration.
