Antec Sonata Case Question

I recently purchased an 120 mm adaptec LED cooling fan but my antec sonata computer case won't close so I was wondering was there a specific 120 mm fan that needs to be inside the sonata case? And the fan mount is 120 mm. So the fan fits fine over the hole but I can't close the case.

Or can I make the other fan I have fit?

I have read in NewEgg customer reviews that certain 120mm case fans do not fit in the sonata. The one I frequently see mentioned to get with the Sonata is the Vantec Stealth.

It won't close? Is the fan too wide?

Any 120mm fan should work. Depth should be the only variable but that doesn't affect the case closing.

In case you're trying to add a front fan, the Sonata wasn't made to take a front 120mm fan. The fan goes behind the drives (center of the case), pulling air away from them.

i put a Vantec 120 mm as the front fan.

so i don't know where these stories of Vantecs or 120mm fan horror stories come from. Been runnign the case / rig for a year now. With the side panel closed.

What? Then why would they put a fan mount there? It's really only for cooling the hard drives anyways.

That's the point. It does a good job at cooling the HDDs quietly by putting the 120mm fans very close to them. It also places the 120mm fan in front of the video card so it can cool it as well. It's even better if you have Zalman heatpipe as you won't need the optional fan Zalman sells.

I'm pretty happy with the design myself.

Good point about the video card placement, the front fan is blowing right over my 6800GT.

Thanks for you feedback =)

I decided to go with the Vantec fan instead since I heard some good stories about it.

I'm planning on getting the Antec Sonata, but I think I want to add another fan for overclocking and such. Should I go with the 120mmx25mm fan behind the hdd's or a pci fan? This is the first pc I'm building, so I just want to make sure I build a good rig I'll be running 512md ddr400 ram, MSI Neo2 Platinum mobo, and either a AMD64 3200+ or 3500+ winchester cpu. The video card is a Radeon 9600 xt 256mb (I'll be upgrading to a 9800 Pro in January/early February).

How about not placing a 120mm fan in the FRONT at all in your case. I've got an AMD 64 3200+, GeForce 5900XT, 200GB SATA (Seagate), DVD-ROM, DVD-Burner, 768Megs.

Also, have an AeroCool VM101 fanless heatpipe cooler on the 5900XT card. No heating problems what-so-ever. VERY quiet. 120mm fan is being controlled by the FAN ONLY molex of the Antec True380 power supply.

I am, however, running AMD's Cool'n'quiet (lower wattage when not being pushed). The CPU fan actually kicks off for up to 10 minutes at a time (TT Venus 7+ heatsink with 80mm Arctic Cooling thermal controlled fan).

I found an Antec 120mm fan on ebay for cheap on ebay and it works great with my case.

Pic inside of my case

No wonder that fan is quiet, it's only rated at 11+ cfm. Not sure if I would use that one.
