if so, what's some of your favourite series?

Mine would be (not in any particular order):
1. Trigun
2. Slayers
3. Kimagure Orange Road
4. Urusei Yatsura (LUM)
5. Maison Ikkoku
6. Vandread

Also a lot of newer series are coming out which are absolutely great.. i think Vandread just came out on DVD in the States, so check that out. If you're an anime buff, you cant miss that one!! Space sci-fi saga, funny, and the best animation to date bar none! I've got a lot of screenshots on my site.. url in my sig. ^^;

Methinks Vandread did a good job with it's CG... but there's lots of shows with good CG now more than ever. Unless someone picks up Vandread 2nd Stage for US release, you're up for some big disappointment... since there's a cliffhanger ending...

Yeah i have seen Grave of Fireflies.. and i think it is one of the saddess anime ever. Monoke Hime was okay.. there are much better. you should broaden your horizons a bit. heh

It really shows that anime is not cartoon.. it aint disney and it aint for immature ppl.. well, except for dragonballz, pokemon, digimon, and to some extent, sailor moon (althought sm originally was for adult entertainment..).

I also view fansubs, since in Australia anime is very slow to catch on.. forget about getting them in DVDS, its impossible to find them unless you order online.. but then the international shipping charges are ridiculous.

I use to rent them on VHS and borrow my friends as well.. but now i've got super cable, i can download all the newer fansub stuff and give them around to my friends..

btw. what do you think of my website? i was just messing around, didnt think it would turn out like it did since i've never studied html.. and the site is created with notepad.. heh yes, it's true im not lying, it's all notepad work.

Inuyasha is pretty good as well.. hellsing is a bit twisted, too much blood and guts.. but still entertaining. Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star should be popular in the states by now, two very good anime.
I've seen the newst uff, but Vandread esp 2nd stage still has the best cgi and storyline.

Rurouni Kenshin as well.. id forgot. heh there are just too many good ones to name. I think in the states they changed it to Samurai X.. which is so gay. Rurouni means wanderer..
Yu Yu Hakushu is like DB, all fighting, simple plot, and melodramatic over the top scenes.. heh. I dont like stuff like that. Prefer more mature/deep anime.

Ahh i see most people here have good taste in anime.. Rumiko Takahashi is my queen!! *bows down to Rumi-chan!* heh

Noir is pretty sweet, the animation is so crisp and well done.. storyline is intriquing too.. and both women are so damn sexy, especially when they carry such firepower.

Bebop Movie was fantastic.. though i was hoping for a continuation.. since it ended without saying what the other characters did. His death will always be remembered.. one of those great anime moments, like Trigun epsidoe 23.. Nicholas D Wolfwood.. *sniff*

If you like fantasy, similar to Lodoss War, check out Berserk.. that is awesome.

Of all of the anime I have seen the ones that stick out the most for me is Vampire hunter D ( first full legnth anime I ever saw ) and Ninja Scroll. Too me Ninja Scroll is bar none what anime is all about.

Heard there is a sequel to Vamire Hunter D out now also. Cant wait to get back tot he states and pick that bad boy up.

i agree. better then barefoot ran in my opinion

theres always totoro, laputa and others from studio ghibli (think japanese disney).

for dirty humor - goldenboy and ramna

recent ones i've liked are inu yasha, cowboy bebop, mini ah my goddess

not so recent- ah my goddess, anything by rumio takashi

and a bunch i can't recall names of or whatever

course there are a ton that i think are overrated, trigun with its overused silent type near invincible hero, tenchi with the babes drooling over some loser so long it gets old, ghost in the shell-maybe i odn't get it, akira-maybe i didn't get it, lain-can't stand bs and massive cheaping out on animation, evangelion- thought it was bs, story too vague, relies on you to find stuff out later to have it make sense. only consolation being the very cool mecha designs.

Even though you may find Vampire Hunter D to be a great movie, the sequel is a bitch to follow. It goes all over everywhere introducing previously unknown characters as key pieces to the plot right out of nowhere. If you couldn't follow Vampire Hunter D, don't even bother with the sequel.

Definitely you folks have good taste in anime... but blanket statements like "Grave and Mononoke Hime are the best" and "Ninja Scroll is what anime is all about" especially if you say you've never heard of the anime mentioned kinda marks you as an anime n00b...

I love Miyazaki's stuff... Studio Ghibli puts out great work... but I didn't like MH as much as Nausicca.
The GitS manga is soo much better, same with Akira... movies really screwed the pooch in trying to cram&/change the story.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned my fav classic anime movie... Wings of Honneamise.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned their fav studios/animation houses.... a la GONZO (Vandread), GAINAX (Eva, Mahoromatic), Sunrise
