I've been half considering getting a second job to work 1-2 days/week now that I've got wednesdays, thursdays, and fridays off for the foreseeable future and a best buy employee discount seems like it could be handy... how mind-crushingly bad is BB, though?

i'd just wear a sandwich board and stand outside and say "Computer Services for 20% less than Geek Squad Rates" or something

I don't want to have to interact with clients at all, but the idea of spending a couple hours a few days/week locked in a room fixing computers for minimum wage and an employee discount doesn't seem all that bad.

Geek Squad gets such a bad rap here that I doubt anyone would own up to it if they did work there. What do you have to lose really? Go for it.

I've known some people who did. You will get minimum wage the first few months, but when you show them that you actually know what you are doing then you will get paid more.

If you've got the time, go for it!

Wrong job then.

I was 70% salesman, 30% fix-it guy.

I hated that job, but the cash was okay, hired at 10.50, raised to 11 after 3 months.

I'll step up. I started working for BB in may 2007. And yes, I do work in the Geek Squad. Now, I'll be honest, I don't work at a store thank god. I work at one of their computer service centers. I for one like it. I don't have to be a salesmen and sell an OS restore for $XXX and a ram install for $XXX.

Oh, and the discount is totally totally kick ass. Thats all I can say

If you work for Geek Squad I bet they'll want you to work 1 day of the weekend though.

If you have any more questions, PM me

I put in an application with them, but didn't get hired. I think it's probably for the best. I like fixing computers, but I'd have a hard time living with myself screwing people over for money.

Like I said, where I work I don't see customers or see any money; which is awesome. I think you all should realize that Corporate sets the prices and Agents are helpless and thus have to charge what they are made to. Its just business

I realize that part. While it may not apply to your specific job, I'd have a hard selling people items and services that aren't optimal, or that they don't need at all. I've done some private builds, and repairs, and I pride myself on detailed work that's geared towards the individual, with costs kept as low as possible.

Yeah, it was the worst part.

The 2nd worst part was mandatory Sunday trainings at 7AM.
