Any Coffee Connoisseurs Here?

I am an avid coffee drinker. I try different blends and styles all the time. Although I do have standards. I HATE flavored coffees and French roast. I just picked up some organic Sumatran from Sunflower Market - God I love that store. Anyway, I started drinking Columbian. The next thing I tried was Kona. I next found an organic Italian roast. Then I tried some Mocca Java. After Mocca Java I had a nice Jamaica Blue blend. Now, I tried this Sumatra and it's good stuff.

Has anyone tried roasting their own? I read that you can use the old air puff popcorn machines to roast green beans. The article said the popcorn machine produces a medium roast. Well, that's all.

....I've always wanted to try Blue Mountain..but super expensive and hard to find..I get my whole beans at Trader Joes..the Dark Yemen Moca is intoxicating..I drink mine black..no sugar..and pour it into a thermos as soon as it's brewed..

Oh lord you're like my sister. I can't stand that chai shiat. She brought it home and it as hot so the cup looked like any other coffee cup; I took a sip and spluttered it everywhere and had to clean my mouth out. Nasty stuff that.

Anyway, another local organic market, Sprouts, had a free sample for Jamaica Blue. That is smooth stuff. Light roast and virtually no aftertaste. Great nose as well.

REAL chai is pretty good, but most places make this froofy starbucks type of crap that isn't even close.

that being said, i like coffee AND chai (and tea, especially a good green tea).

I roast my own beans using a HotTop roaster, and I brew espresso only using this equipment. This is the result of a freshly roasted espresso blend roasted to what's known as a Full City++ roast. This is an espresso macchiato where I hosed the milk by trying to steam a very small quantity (an espresso is ~2oz, and there's less than 0.5-1oz for the steam).

I do drink some single-origin espressos from Sumatra (or sometimes Sulawesi as a replacement), Kenya AA, etc., but most of my espresso drinking is from a blend.

I love a good cup of coffee. Jamaican Blue, Kona, Sulawesi. Gevalia is a good coffee service that has some good rare coffees. Where I live, I can't just go out and buy some good beans. I have to order it in. I grind my own (burr grinder) but haven't tried roasting.

I went up to Wash. state a few years ago to look at taking a job up there. I stayed with one of my sisters EX's and he roasted his own beans. BEST COFFEE I ever had!:thumbsup:
