any good Action RPGs?

I've given up on WoW a while ago for several reasons (mainly the amount of time it takes to accomplish anything). D2 was my favorite game of all time, and I've been following news on D3 since the first announcement.

I'm under the assumption that SC2 will be released before D3, and seeing as how I loved SC I'll buy/play that until D3 comes out. But is there anything else to play before SC2 comes out? A good action RPG, maybe a strategy game will do. I'm kind of biased towards Blizzard games.

I did pick D2 back up but quickly got bored - after all you can lvl to 80 and beat the game in 1 day, at which point it becomes either a) endless MFing or b) botting.

I was thinking of just getting WC3 and playing custom TD/DOTA games. Any suggestions?

Not really into FPS anymore, burned out on CS a long time ago.

I always liked playing through D2 on single player, so I actually never saw level 80. Sometimes I would LAN it up with a friend, but other than that, I liked the slow pace I guess.

I enjoyed Jade Empire Special Edition (PC version). Aside from my complaints, it was pretty good.

Titan Quest and Titan Quest: Immortal Throne.

Also, try Dungeon Siege 1/2 as well.

Space Siege is enjoyable but only get it if it is in the bargain bin at some ridiculously low price. Its a rather "meh" action game with very light RPG overtones that lasts about 7-8 hours.

are there any games in an isometric-like perspective (a la D2)? is fallout any good? or is it not an action-rpg?

if there's a good strategy game I'm for it too .. I've played most C&C games so not really into those, AOE was a bit complex for my liking.

I'll second Elcs' recommendation of Titan Quest/expansion. D2 clone with better graphics, some tough fights mixed in here and there for a bit of challenge.

Also you might check out S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It's a FPS but much slower paced than most, firefights are really challenging and can last a while. Some RPG elements but no character building to bother with, just better equipment to gather and storyline to explore.

The company split apart a few months ago and the website for Mythos is still down, so I think it's safe to say it is dead. At the very least its not breathing.

The original Mythos team formed their own company, Runic Games. But we probably won't see anything from them for another year at least.

Fable
Bard's Tale

I tried some bargains from last summer. If they were not <$5 bargains, I might have passed on them, and missed some good gameplay. Both are ported from the console versions. Fable 2 is finally being release next month (on consoles first, again), so you probably have been exposed to the hype that is 'Fable'. Bard's Tale is also an Action-Adventure-RPG. The PC version is also packaged with the old 1980s RPGs Bard's Tale I, II, & III, MSDOS versions. I forget if I needed DosBox to run them, or if they had been updated to run well under windows. But I would assume most people ignored the 1980s freebies anyway, if they had not played them back-in-the-day and wanted to relive the nostalgia.

Titan Quest. Get the gold edition for only $20 bucks. It comes with the original game plus the expansion. Great stuff!

Not since Diablo has an action RPG stimulated me like Titan Quest.

jeez witcher is addicting. i got burned out on ff12 from all the sidequesting so i decided to give witcher ee a whirl today... and i just played it straight for 5 hours. what a game. the story and characters are great - and i'm glad i waited for the ee version to play it.

While a good game, i wouldnt characterize the Witcher as an action RPG. I would classify it as a story based RPG. If you want something like Diablo 2, i would stick with Titan Quest + Expansion, maybe even Space Siege if you're into sci-fi.

Why? Witcher puts you in the role of an established character. Other games allow you to customize your hero's appearance and back story. Obviously he is looking for the latter.
