Seriously, I would REALLY like to see some good co-op support in newer games.
i agree totally. ESPECIALLY ONLINE!! Like 2 people can play in what do they call it.. campaign mode in some games.. but like the single player type of completing stuff, but have 2 people logged into it and playing from 2 diff houses etc. That would be pretty cool.
I don't know WHY it hasn't been done. Imaine a game like FarCry, where someone is driving and another is gunning in one of the buggies or hummers...it would be so much more fun and the game could be a lot harder as well because of the tactics you could employ.
Situations where you can attack a big group of enemies, incite them to attack and chase you, only to run them into a trap where you have a buddy waiting to blow them away with something fun.
Charging at enemies where someone is providing some suppressing fire while another is using surgical precision and taking out key targets one by one...
Bots just don?t cut it.
Halo is pretty good proof of this, where your soldier teammates are pretty much worthless except for their bot aim (accurate, although not smart), but your ?invisible to the world? clone Master Chief coop teammate can really help you out (especially with the vehicles, not as accurate but knows when to keep shooting and shooting at targets well outside the range a dumb bot would fire at but could still hit if it fired)
Games like HL2 do a decent job in making the bot teammates less than worthless, being able to control them to some degree is nice (Halo 2 was decent as well, although you just need to make sure you give the bots weapons such as the sniper rifle, because they don?t miss and don?t run out of ammo).
But it just isn?t the same as if you had a real teammate to play with.
I?m hoping that with the growth of broadband, and single player shooters becoming monotonous along with all the shell of game multiplayer only types such as UT, CS, and BF2, game developers will finally recognize that there is an untapped niche in the game world that is co-op. You don?t have to invest the time required to get the most out of a multiplayer only game (the time it takes to get any good and past the learning curve, especially if you join in late after everyone already has become godly at it), and it isn?t the boring, ?been there, done that?, solo experience of single player.
