I know everyone must get tired of this, but please evaluate the parts I'm about to order!
BTW This computer will be strictly for gaming, I'm going to college next year and will take it with me! it will be for games like FEAR, AOEIII, and UT2k7

CPU - AMD X2 3800+ (322$)
VIDEO - eVGA 7800 GT (299$)
MOBO - DFI Lanparty Ultra-D (123$)
RAM - 1 GB (512 x 2) Corsair Value RAM 2.5 cas (72$)
HDD - Samsung SpintPoint 200GB (94$)
PSU - Antec TruePowerII 480watt (70$)
DVDRW - ?
MOUSEPAD - Steelpad QcK+ (15$)
HEADPHONES - DSP-500's (45$)

Total - $1040

any thoughts/suggestions? should i downgrade to a 3700+?

for the dvdrw, get the nec 3550a. otherwise, looks like you did some good research. also, consider getting an antec s12-430.

I would get 2 gigs of ram for this setup,it will boost gaming performance

You didn't mention which case is being used, but for a college comp, especialy if you're in a dorm, and especially if you're going to a large public university, I'd say get the biggest, heaviest steel case you can and not an aluminum one. Durability is very important when you're putting in quality components.

As for the DVD burner, can't go wrong with a Lite-on or NEC from the usual places.

Also just wondering why you went with a Samsung hard drive over a Seagate, Western Digital, or Maxtor?

Since you're going with the DFi board, I assume you're overclocking.

Also, go for 2GBs of RAM. It'll be worth it.

my friend highly recommended the samsung, which is why i chose it

the reason i didnt get 2 gigs of ram is that i was working with a budget, do you guys think i should drop the processor to a san diego 3700+ and get 2 gigs or stick with just 1 gig for now and upgrade later?

no, definately not. just upgrade to 2gb later, its barely needed now. most things dont need 2gb. dual core is a really good thing to have.

Change the PSU to a Seasonic. And this is personal preference but I would go with an Asus. For the DVD-RW; I like Samsung's drives.

ahh, i would but i am unfortunately working on a tight budget.
