I've known Mormon (LDS) people for awhile but have never asked them about their religion.

However today, one of my ex-mormon friends told me some shocking things. I do suspect however
that he statements maybe the result of her hatred for the Mormon church.

So I was wondering if any practicing Mormons could answer these questions:

1.
Is it true the when Mormons die, they become the "God" of their own planet?
If so, can you explain more abiut this? Like, are there other creatures on this planet?

2.
Is it true that if a Mormon marries or dates a non-Mormon, then the Mormon person
cannot reach the "highest" level of salvation or cannot reach the highest level of heaven?

3.
Is it true that Mormons can only wear white underwear/garments? Why?

4.
Is it true that in the Mormon faith, God was on some other planet and sent angels
throughout the universe, but the bad angels came to earth to became black people?

These questions are not meant to insult or flame anyone. I was just wondering if they had any validity.
They seem pretty outrageous to me.

I'm not Mormon, but living in Utah I've been subjected to more than I care for... so maybe I can help a little. #2 and #3 are right, but I can offer no explanation. As for #1 and #4, those are just ludicrous!

[edit]Oops... misread #2... I thought it read that the non-Mormom cannot attain the (Celestial) highest level of Heaven, which is whatI've heard.[/edit]

You're very astute.

BS to all 4. Invite a mormon missionary to your home and ask them point blank every one of those questions. Or if you would like to know more, go to LDS Official site.

So "garments" aren't required anymore?

I read a few books a couple years ago, so I can share a little although I am not mormon.

1.) I don't know about God of their own planet, but I do know that they believe there are levels of heaven and on the highest levels of heaven there are some God-like powers or priveleges or something.

2.) Not sure about this one, but it does sound consistent with other mormon beliefs/teachings.

3.) A mormon family I knew a few years back did believe this, so I would assume it's a general mormon thing.

4.) I dont know about blacks being bad angels and all, but the mormon church did NOT accept black people up until the whole civil rights thing in the sixties. For the longest time they did not have a very good view of black people at all.

Please dont flame me, it was a long time ago that I was up on this stuff, and I was a little young at the time to understand it all. Many of the technical beliefs of the mormon church like the ones you're mentioning are kinda only deep in the church, and not widely talked about to non-mormons; the missionaries don't waltz up to your house in their nice slacks and shirts saying "we have a history of anti-black sentiments....now let me tell you about the love of God!".

EDIT: After asking a few friends and consulting their main page; (perhaps this is becoming flame territory...better suit up) the whole family oriented, slightly modified protestant thing is a total facade. There are an extreme number of skeletons in the closets for a church thats less then 200 yrs old. Many of those skeletons include everything from Joseph Smith being a total con artist all his life (just look up the criminal records) to the very cult-ish beliefs of the higher-ups in the church.

ok -->

"This means that every worthy married male, according to the standards of Mormonism, will become a god and rule over their own planet. But what about the women? That question was answered by Joseph Fielding Smith, tenth prophet of the Church, when he spoke of Man's salvation or exaltation as it is called in Mormonism.

"The Father has promised us that through our faithfulness we shall be blessed with the fullness of his kingdom. In other words we will have the privilege of becoming like him. To become like him we must have all the powers of godhood; thus a man and his wife when glorified will have spirit children who eventually will go on an earth like this one we are on and pass through the same kind of experiences, being subject to mortal conditions, and if faithful, then they also will receive the fullness of exaltation and partake of the same blessings. There is no end to this development; it will go on forever. We will become gods and have jurisdiction over world, and these world will be peopled by our own offspring. We will have an endless eternity for this"(25)"

I used to attend an LDS church, but have since become a non-believer.

1) no. not true. not god their own planet. they do, however, believe in ascending to godhood.

2) Yes, it is true, assuming that the "gentile" does not join the church in either this life or the one after.

3) Yes, practicing Mormons are supposed to wear garments -- they are a symbol of their dedication to the Lord, and are supposed to offer protection [physical/mental?] to the endowed.

4) No ... during the war in heaven between God and Satan, there were those who followed God, and those who followed Lucifer. Of those who followed God, there were the extremely faithful, the faithful, the average and the less-faithful. The less-faithful were "marked" by a dark skin.

They are rather outrageous, and many of the practicing zealots, although not always the loudest, are extremely irritating, obnoxious and quite blind.

For all the Mormons in this thread:

Can y'all post pics of what the inside of that huge temple in Salt Lake City looks like??? I'm dying to know, but I don't want to convert just to find out what its like. I heard no cameras or video equipment are allowed inside...so this has to be a covert operation!!!

Why don't they let non-Mormons inside the big LDS churches?

There is a far cry from describing sacred garments and "Is it true that Mormons can only wear white underwear/garments? Why?"

I do not wear garments and I am an ordained elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. If you want to learn more ,take my advice and invite a missionary into your home and ask these questions. They would be only be to happy to tell you the truth about the Church. Or go to the link I provided.

If you have a problem with that, that is your problem, not mine. I don't give a sh!t. I respect the Church, and will not see it slammed because of ignorance. I have provided a reasonable solution to answer reasonable questions.

You sir, based your questioning me with an attitude reflected by
but living in Utah I've been subjected to more than I care for... .

If you don't like being subjected to "Mormons" don't let the door slam you in the ass as you leave Utah.

I was a strict mormon up until I hit 15 or 16, then I re-evaluated my beliefs and decided that it was not for me.

1) I have heard about the "being a god" thing. I never heard much detail about it, probably because there isn't any information about it. I don't believe it. I disagree with alot of the mormon afterlife teachings.

2) Not so much dating, but marrying out of the faith will ban you from achieving the highest level of heaven. Again, I don't agree with this.

3) Yes, practicing mormons wear garments. They are white and made of fine white cloth and is a symbol of purity to them.

4) I haven't ever heard of this. I've seen lots of wierd translations of the mormon faith, but I've never heard of that.

The mormons do not allow cameras or video equiptment into temples simply because they are highly spiritual places and they believe in keeping them "pure" so to speak. I've been inside many of them and they are very beautiful buildings.

Hate to let you guys down, but I didn't find pictures of the interior of the Salt Lake Temple, they are out there I just don't feel like looking long enough, but here are some of a more recently built temple in Orlando, Florida.
Waiting Area
Bride's Room
Celestial Room
Sorry the quality isn't that good, but it looks like the guy scanned them from the brochure for the open house. If don't feel like looking for any more.

Up until the time a Temple is dedicated and set apart for the Lords work, non members can visit and see the inside of a Temple.

<< So I take it that in the Mormon faith, there are different levels of heaven? >>

Yes, 3 main layers, then 3 levels in the top layer...

temple access deals with the perceived purity of those who enter it. So it would be profane to allow certain people or types of people into them, depending on the beliefs of the particular religion

So then I take it that it is not enough to repent for one's sins and accept Jesus/God as the savior?

You have to do something more while on earth in order to reach the highest levels?

I haven't seen a single wedding ceremony in my family because of the so called "purity" requirements. Needless to say, that didn't settle with me to well :|

No ... what that means is that if you don't do something more on earth, you have the opportunity to do it in the afterlife and fully beomce one with the Church.

Ther herd mentality of Mormons is sickening; even more so their cliquishness. [from too much experience]

Also, can someone tell me more about "blood atonement"

I did not want to bring it up before because it seems sick to me. Don't know if it is true or not.
Anyone care to explain?
