Just throwing it out there. Still going strong after almost 20 years, so figure there has to be some active players here.

Played from 94-97, then I got back into it in 2002 for about a year and again in 2007 for a few months. I doubt I will buy new cards ever again.

Back in the day I was. What a time AND money sink it was. Still have a bunch of cards because I actually enjoy the older artwork. I also have a signed print of the art from Ivory Tower on my living room wall.

BUT since Eldrazi, Scars, and MBS... the metagame has really started to SUCK.

Sold all my cards waaaaaaay back when. It became unfun when they started making ridiculous deck building rules. What the hell is the point if I can't drop 10 of those blue insta-zapping blue dudes and nuke anything I want to from orbit? LAAAME.

My friends and I still get together to play. Unfortunately after Urza's block it really went downhill. The Darksteel block was one that was pretty close to old school MTG and was a lot of fun. Every so often my friends and I will pitch in for a booster box of various series and do drafts. Unfortunately the new "abilities" and shit are absolute crap. It really sucks, and has killed the enjoyment of the old game

I played back in the day when Ice Age first came out. Then stopped buying around Nemesis. Just became too much of a money pit. Always having to buy new cards that have no real value in the end. I still have like 3 moving boxes packed full of cards in my basement collecting dust.

Then you must recognize my username.

Played for 5 years, quit, played for 2 more years, stopped playing and sold my dual lands (couldn't believe how expensive they got, had to sell)

Still have some of my favorite decks built but I stopped around Invasions which was years ago. Even though it pissed people off I hated that they got rid of combo decks and started focusing on creatures. Started just going to booster drafts but those were never much fun IMO and it didn't last long.

Yeah, that's about when I played too. Maybe a bit earlier start and end -- Visions or Weatherlight through the second Masques set (Nemesis?).

I've looked into it occasionally since then but I was never really tempted to get back into playing a lot.

Yes, I have that card. Sad to see so many not playing anymore, but it's the same story for a LOT of players, including myself. The difference is I got back into it. I've talked to a lot of players in tournaments and it seems like most took a break years ago and recently started playing again. I'm really enjoying it.

The really cool thing that Wizards is doing now is a deckbuilder's toolkit. It's a box that comes with almost 300 cards for just $20. It makes it real easy to get back in it. Of course you'll eventually start booster diving for more. I pre-ordered a booster box for the new set that comes out tomorrow, very excited. I already have several of the new cards that I will be using in my deck friday night.

I like it, lots of variety. I am running a knights deck which is only getting better with MBS. At the pre-release I got the Hero of the Bladehold, Mirran Crusader, and a sword of feast and famine that people were begging to trade for. I also already got an Accorder Paladin and Leonin Skyhunter so my knight deck is starting to look real good.

I played during the very end of beta and a while through unlimited. Sold all my cards when I bought my first house; made a nice chunk of change when I sold - was shocking at the time.

Yeah some of the beta cards go for upwards of a thousand dollars. A lot of people have a goldmine sitting in boxes and don't realize it.

I think I might have to check and see if my parents still have my cards!

I still have my cards from '95-'99 a few dual mines, dopelganger, my stasis deck that I put together just to piss people off in multi-player games... I'll get around to selling it all at some point but I won't ever play again, that was massively expensive.

I never played but I did collect... prob have hundreds of cards from the mid 90's sitting somewhere collecting dust from various editions. Prob worth a pretty penny too but I'm not bothered to check what I have. Got a ton of Pokemon 1st ed cards from the original set too.

You missed the point if you collected the cards without playing.

I find it very frustrating that in an era where they seemed to be pushing creature based decks... that there is a higher abundance of control than at any time I can remember...

Maybe once Zendikar rotates out I wont feel this way...

Let me just say... I hate when the metagame is full of "Draw-Go" decks.

This thread pisses me off because MTG is almost 20 years old and I just realized I bought my first pack in 1992 or 1993. Jesus...
