Apple has nice designs but I wonder if any x86 based laptops that comes close?

preferably a pentium-M (Centrino) and a 64 mb seperate videocard

Lol I actually like the Thinkpad design. The skirt around the screen lets it sit flush (no space) with the laptop when it's folded. looks really cool and it's solid. i don't own one but i'd jump at the chance to have it. However, if you're looking for an apple style notebook, look at the sony vaio series. All the models look pretty sleek and are quite similar to the apple designs.

As of right now none of the makers that i know of carry a Centrino with a totally Sep Video card all video is onboard hence forth no upgrading. the only company that i have heard of that makes upgradeable video is *ell and that is a one shot deal. and no current idea on price either.

the Sony V505 is nice, although everyone is scared shitless when it comes to reliability and support.

I guess you haven't heard of Alienware , they are known for their user upgradeable graphics modules. If your looking to drag out the power of your laptop's video card, Alienware is the way to go. Also I think the notebooks look pretty snazzy with the blue, green, or silver paint...and the Alien head on the top with eyes that light up!

Alienware's is not a Centrino.. I think their Thin and Light solution's video card is also built in.

He said prefably a Pentium M, so that means battery life is important for him...therefore he can look into their AMD 64 based laptop which is supposedly due out very soon.

The HP Pavilion zt3020EA looks pretty nice, the only thing I'm a bit concerned about is the 15.4 widescreen. I don't really know if I would like a widescreen, I guess I would just have to go and see one in real life.

I saw a 17" widescreen laptop... the thing looked monsterous, and it was damn heavy... I dunno if I would ever want to lug that thing around....

15.4 should be better..

I doubt that I could get a 17" laptop in my pricerange, so it's not as much the size as the geometry. I don't know how well it will go with ocasionally gaming.

I don't think it's *that* expensive.

True, but it doesn't run a pentium-M

And it doesn't seem to be available in Denmark (which you ofcourse wouldn't know also was one of the requirements)

I put a vote in for Acer Travelmates. Check out the 800 and 6000/8000 series. Sleek design, very thin and pretty quick. I've had mine for a while and still like the thin design. And it doesn't resemble any F117 or something with all kinds of bells and whistles. Just plain style.

I went to see how the 15.4" Widescreen looked, and it seems pretty practical for working with more windows open, and since gaming not will the main use for this notebook I think I'm getting a 15.4" WS.

I think it will be from HPs zt3000 series or HP/Compaq NX7000

hej dansker

I also wanted a stylish laptop... but none were just available in DK - except the ferrari, but it's becoming too common now (when I wanted to buy it, they told me only 20 were being sold iN Denmark), and it runs only ~ 1.5 hours on battery.

So I ended up saying "fack design", and went with a thinkpad t41p, because it has the best balance of specs and size you can get in a notebook. It cost me 18300dkr total, ordered it from studentenrabatt.ch.

You can look into a zitech Z6 though - it's the same machine as an asus m3n (not available in DK), and looks very stylish imo... not sure if the gfx is seperated though.

btw - are you sure, you really need widescreen? I had an hp nx7000 which I returned later.. I never used the "two windows open at the same time!!" thing that sell most people on widescreens.. it's just as quick tabbing from window to window, and you don't have to spend time resizing windows. Also I didn't like the weight/size, and the resolution of it (1680x1050) was just a tad small for me - 1400x1050 on the 14.1" of my thinkpad fits perfectly though.

Well, I don't really know about WS, but I'm going to use it in a lab and some of the programs run in dual windows, but for some strange reason the combination of pentium-M, seperate 64mb video, non-WS and nice look is more or less impossible to find. But the Z7 looks nice on the spec side, then I will drop by Zitech to see if they have it on display. I've also set a loft of 15K kr, but less would be nice and the Z7 is about 14K, it also depends of how noisy it is, the HPs should be very silent and around 13K (and ofcourse lesser specs than the Z7). (I know I'm picky, but I have some months to decide)

Tak for foreslaget

A few years ago, Steve Jobs said his aim was to beat Sony in terms of "sexiness" in the design of their systems. Arguably they have succeeded, but nonetheless, Sony's are nice looking notebooks/computers.
