I think the circles thing is gonna be a bit too complicated for most people.
Ok, this is boring as hell, they need to stop with the invite only BS.
Yeah it's really making the whole thing a wasteland. In other news I now have 2 friends instead of 1. And I only know maybe five or six people who would ever be interested in signing up. My Twitter account is basically the same way. I never tweet because I only have like 4 followers (well, and because I don't have anything interesting to say).
The whole reason social networking is popular is it lets you connect with people you normally don't talk to or have lost touch with. If I wanted to find my old roommate for some reason, I could probably do it through Facebook. The people I talk to a lot, I really don't need to be Facebook friends with them because I can contact them other ways.
Without the number of users that Facebook has, Google+ is going to fail. It doesn't even really offer anything Facebook doesn't have, it just makes a few things easier to get to (circles, privacy settings). Same reason why WoW has been the most popular MMORPG for so long - it's the most massive.
Look at any other social site that's big right now. They all started as an exclusive beta. It's really the only way you reliably balance the servers & see what hardware/network demands you need to meet.
But yes, I'm ready to move away from facebook. I do not trust how they manage my data. While I'm waiting for Google to eventually turn to the dark side, they have kept their nose clean for the most part.
If you're not the kind of person who enjoys being on the cutting edge of new tech & exclusive trials, don't apply. There's going to be hiccups and server outages. Not all your friends are going to be able to get into Google+, and that's if they want to.
Most of us will need to keep a facebook account for a while after Google+ becomes open because we will have friends and family who don't want to migrate to G+. Personally, I'm ok with that. I don't want G+ to start catering to the lowest common denominator.
And they all started before any of the others. Google+ is a copy cat for the most part, they can't afford it.
I disagree. World of Warcraft was only a copycat. It didn't really introduce anything new when it first started. All it did was take the features of current games on the market and polish them. When they started they had all the server problems, all the balance issues, and all the complaints about lack of content that nearly every other MMO goes through. They only thing they had going for them was Blizzard's name recognition & reputation.
Now? WoW is king of the MMO mountain.
I say there's no telling what Google+ will turn out to be. Sure the invite only thing is annoying, but beta's are rife in the computer world. People are used to it by now. If it's good enough, people will continue to be foaming at the mouth to get in for months and maybe years to come.
really? If so I weep for society.
you can view and post to facebook from G+ now it seems
however im not sure how long that will work for as i cant see FB being happy about it
In for an invite if anyone has one please.
