I find a couple of things annoying on this phone.
1. The auto brightness is garbage. Its pretty much garbage and useless like the iphone versions. Minimum settings dont work well at all. Auto is too low most times.
2. Where the hell is the built-in video player? Not a big deal as I use MX player but I can only access the built in player if I click directly on a video file in file manager. It seems like a decent player but I would like to launch the app.
Yeah, the auto brightness sucks badly.
No idea. I could've sworn it and the Music player only showed up as widgets, but now there's an normal icon for Music and no Video at all (I can see it when checking Apps, not sure if you can create a shortcut from there or not).
Frankly, while the display is fine, I still greatly prefer AMOLED. I just checked and I have my Note 3 set to about the 2nd lowest brightness setting and it is easily as bright as about 50% on the V10's slider while not being eye searing, and needless to say there's no comparison in black levels. Also, the little 2nd display isn't AMOLED? That seems like a bizarre thing since I can see noticeable backlight bleed on it at times, and it would make sense to use OLED for it.
Really liking the sound quality. Is it as good as a dedicated DAC/amp? I don't know, might compare it later, but now I don't feel compelled to get one. I likely still will though as I plan on getting a Surface and possibly changing my current setup (using a Titanium HD on a desktop). But it is very good. Now if they'd just open it up so you can make it be the default for when you use the headphone jack (meaning it will automatically work with all apps).
Any idea on how to change the MIDI (and where to find alternatives)? I know its a waste of the quality, but I have a bunch of game music MIDI files, and the default ones are not a good fit.
Got really frustrated with the AT&T address book pop-up until I found out how to disable that. Hope the Marshmallow update allows me to lock down all the ATT stuff even more (the Drive Mode). Thankfully it doesn't complain about the SIM like my Verizon Note 3.
Took some pictures but haven't actually checked the quality yet. Definitely fast autofocus and pic taking. Still would like a dedicated shutter button.
I'm mixed on the feel of the phone. Overall it is great, I absolutely love the stainless steel sides (do wish they were darker though), makes the phone feel very solid (iPhone 6 and 6S feel downright cheap in comparison, but then not everyone will like the heft that the solid steel brings). The plastic pieces on the top and bottom on the face are a bit cheap (they're solid just don't look premium to me). If they would have done wrap around with the glass vertically (so like how the Samsung Edge phones are, just on the top and bottom instead of the sides) then I think people would be absolutely fawning over this phone's feel. The plastic back is fine although I would have preferred more premium material there as well, but I like how the side frame kinda hides the lip of the cover (compare it to say the Note 3, where it covered the back and was sandwiched so that the side frame doesn't provide a protective lip).
Will be interested to see how the Lumia 950 is. I don't see myself giving up the V10 for it, as while it could be a very good, even great phone, I think the LG is so good that it'd be a sidegrade at best. Also apparently Microsoft is delaying (possibly indefinitely) the ability to sideload Android. That in itself isn't a major issue as I don't really use much apps in general, but it is disappointing somewhat. We'll see next year though.
This is a great phone now, but with some changes, this could be a real wow phone. Samsung, see how you can make a premium feeling phone without giving up features?
